Please review accurately, even if you raise a member dispute. THS boots few members, even for egregious behavior, so truthful reviews can help other sitters avoid terrible hosts. What you’ve described is outrageous.
Just fyi similar hapened to us, we left the next moring while the HO was still home and could find a local sitter. I immediately started a chat with THS stating we left because we felt unsafe. Since we had started the sit, according to THS it was considered leaving and the HO was able to write a scathing review on us even tho the sit was not anywhere near as advertised.
Can’t believe how this get worse. I’m so happy for you being able to leave. It really shows how important it is to be picky with sits, take notice of red flags and have a plan B also if everything seems great.
At what point is there no review? If you leave the sit early, due to problems, or you leave when you get there and the sit is not as advertised, as this? Or if you show up, there is a review?
If the sit is cancelled before it starts, there is no review.
The sit starts:
You leave the sit early, then there will be a review.
You get there and the sit is not as advertised, then there will be a review.
You show up, then there will be a review.
Thanks everyone for the support and following along!
The night I left the house the owner wasn’t very polite about the situation. Using language like ‘if you don’t feel comfortable then I don’t feel comfortable with you in the house’ and told me to leave that evening.
the next day I share the text conversation with the owner onto the support team. I used the support number to talk to a rep also in The States and she agree that we could cancel this because of the breaches in the agreement.
I chose to have it cancelled. This means no reviews from me or from the owner.
Support says they’ll follow up with the owner but I don’t really know as I didn’t raise a formal complaint, rather support tickets to help me.
I went back and re-read the previous sitters reviews for this owner. Weird is that there was one repeat male sitter who must have stayed at this new house despite the ad being a different house.
I’m guessing he had a car, wasn’t as worried about safety, probs didn’t have the friend living there … and was maybe more chill than me haha.
the light at the end: I went to stay with a friend and ended up having a lovely weekend with them.
I still plan to keep sitting but will make every effort to meet in person in the future.
And turn down the sit at the first red flag
@TravelTailz thanks for the update .
Glad that your weekend worked out .
It’s not too late to raise a member dispute if you wish to do so ( with a view to protecting future sitters )
THS won’t take any action unless a dispute is raised . Given the seriousness of the situation, it’s disappointing that THS support didn’t explain the option of raising a dispute .
Having a third party in the home is a clear breach of the T&Cs and owner can be removed from the platform for this .You have evidence in the form of your text messages .
The fact that this previous male sitter liked the sit, as he was a repeat sitter, shows there are sitters for every sit. HOs have complained about some sitters, we complain about some HOs but perhaps there is someone for everyone. Just a matter of learning which sits are best for you. I had applied for a sit in beautiful looking house but then when she contacted me, she said they were having renovations and I would be staying in a 400 sq ft cabin, and showed pictures. Rustic cottage. Not what I applied for and withdrew. One, rustic cottages are hard to clean. Two, it was a very different sit experience that I applied for and decided there will be another sit. And if there is someone else there, a hard no. I am not cleaning for another person who is staying there.
Yes, if you arive on the start day even if you leave for a valid reason, in out case we did not feel the situation was safe and immediately wrote THS and let them know this the HO still was able to leave a scathing review
