Are there pet sitters around xmas

Hi, i’m thing to travel for a week over Christmas. Are there pet sitters who love to sit over the holiday period?

Yes of course, although a lot of us are booked up way ahead. There will always be people who need to visit friends and relatives and look for a sit nearby or just want to escape to somewhere new for the holidays. Just make your ad the best possible to attract people

@nealoliver01 we have had four requests to sit over the holiday period already so I recommend that you make a listing asap .

For Christmas you could even get local applicants. If they have someone visiting they could be interested in a petsit in the area so that their guests can use their home. With the added bonus of getting a retreat from the family-chaos.

Hi, yes we certainly do. Every year since 2018, excluding 2020. Love it. Spain and Cyprus mostly.

Since starting with TH in 2019, I’ve sat Christmas day, New Years eve and day, US Thanksgiving (4th Thursday in November for those of you not from the US). 2022 I started with a T’giving sit in San Francisco and flew from there to Australia where I had 3 back-to-back sits one over Christmas in Melbourne with 2 cats and then NY day on the other side of Melbourne with the biggest beagle I’ve ever seen.
And now I tell a story - But as a solo traveler working in education, I’ve often traveled over Christmas because that is when I had the time off work. Especially memorable was a trip to HCM City (Saigon) where I went on a wonderful Snail Street food tour on Christmas eve,

then back to my hotel through the crowds surrounding Notre Dame cathedral for midnight mass. Started my return to the US via Paris on Christmas day the long way around because Air France used to have a great premium economy fare from the US that took you to somewhere in Asia and somewhere in Europe for what a PE fare from the US to Asia would cost. That trip combined Bucharest and HCM City. Outbound CDG-SGN I got op-uped to business class because the flight was oversold in the back. The return on Christmas day the purser moved the three of us in PE up to business class (although we didn’t get BC meals). And it was a wonderful day for flying - we flew all the way with the sun as flight left SGN early morning and arrived at CDG after sunset. And for almost the whole trip, there were no clouds.

It may help if we know where you’re based. Some places are easier to get to than others, and some are more populated (ie with families living nearby to visit).

As the others said, there are many of us who sit over the holidays. but, it’s a HUGELY in demand time of year so you should get your sit listed ASAP because you will have a LOT of competition. Make sure your listing is polished up and done well to get the best result. You can ask in the forum for feedback.

Last year, there seemed to be way more sits available vs. sitters for the holidays. In your place, I’d list quickly and make sure your listing comes across strongly. You might want to share it in your forum profile and have experienced sitters here give you input, to better your odds of landing someone great.

We always like to do a fairly local housesit over Christmas, so that my elderly mother can join us for Christmas Day, have a little change of scenery and enjoy the company of some pets. I always ask in my application if she can join us just for the day.

We had the most brilliant sit last year over Christmas and New Year’s Eve. 7 weeks in Dartmoor. Such a great time!

I start a 6 month sit next month and I can’t wait. It’s going to be lovely and I have so much stuff planned to work on while I’m in one place for so long!

6 months? Wow, who lets their pet alone for 6 months? And why?

People who go on long round the world trips.

ETA - and the pet is not alone, they have me. That’s the whole purpose of this site - so people can go on holiday and not leave their pets alone.

Yes but they are booked months in advance. I think hosts really need to make their listings look and sound extra special for holidays to attract sitters as there is so many.
(We booked a sit in April for Christmas, once we decided where we wanted to be)

You have already got great advice. I would just add that it would help to make it family friendly.

Yes, sure. I was just wondering. Hope it’s not a dog.

Amazing! I did a 6 month sit last year when the home owners took early retirement to tour Australia. It is so nice to be able to settle in an area for an extended period, make contacts and become familiar with surroundings, especially if you are used to travelling a lot. Hope it is a great experience for you.
