Are you accepting International sitters?

My nephew “lives” in Nairobi and has to leave the country for at least 24hrs after 3 months. So this time he grabbed his girlfriend and went on Safari in Namibia for that occasion

Hello

I hope I am doing this right, I am new to this sort of thing. Thank you for your kind message, we haven’t had any applicants yet but I have contacted 3 as THS advised me to be proactive, so I looked in find a sitter and chose ones that are available and suitable, I think we need two people as our girls are quite strong so couples are better also we are in a rural area. We are happy to receive and help you can offer. Thank you so much

Hello

Thanks, I have had a message from David one of the 3 people I contacted from the list of sitter and he is looking into it ? But nothing firm yet.

We’d be happy to accept international sitters again, although it may be too late to make some travel arrangements (it’s September and we’re looking for sitters in December.) We haven’t made plans to travel abroad again at all although I’m hoping we will soon.

Hello. Thanks for that information, I have just re read their email and I realise that what they have done is, after booking us for 3 weeks they then took on a sit for 3 months in Vienna and they have obviously realised that without an extended visa allowing them to stay in Europe for longer than 90 days they cannot do both so we are the ones they chose to cancel on. Very upsetting and potentially costly for us if we can’t get replacements. Oh well another lesson learned. Thanks so much

As I understand they actually didn’t need a visa. As Canadians they may stay for as long as 90 days within a 180 days period.
But I am not an expert on this.

For us Brits we are now allowed into the Schengen zone for 90 out of 180 days, in a rolling period, so it’s not as simple as returning to the UK to reset. It’s only 90 days in any 180

I would definitely check the 90 day in 180 day.
If someone stays 90 days they have to be out for 90 days before they can legally go back in.
For example, if A stays for 45 days then leaves. Then 2 weeks later they come back for another 45 days they must then be out for 90 days as they have used up their 90 days in every 180.

We have friends (Canadian and US) who have experienced this throughout the past few years. Yes, you can flaunt the rules but if they are caught they won’t get back into Europe again.

Ok, so I need to check how they plan to do this! Thank you :pray:t3: so much!

that will cause a lot of sitters to want to visit for long periods, one sit after the other, its not going to be as easy as in the past, pre Brexit. I just hope we can get a replacement for October fingers crossed

With everything happening now, I will say no. I just had a sitter cancel a Christmas sit as she is based in the UK/Saudi Arabia. I have had my listing available since October as I was proactive…Now I’m scrambling to find a sitter 19 days away. I’m based in the NYC area.

I like to give everyone a fair chance, but with the international travel situation, I don’t want to take anymore chances. Until this virus is somewhat contained, I only want to use sitters based in the U.S.

From a sitters point of view - we have accepted a sit in Spain and another in France (we’re currently in the UK) and will do whatever it takes to get there (PCR, isolating, whatever). We’ve never cancelled a sit yet and aren’t about to start now. But this new variant has set us back on our heels a bit and we’re starting to think about having a home base in case there’s a repeat of 2020.

Hi @Catin88 welcome to our community forum thank you for joining us from NYC.

I’m sorry you find yourself having to re list although I’ve looked at your listing and apart from the most adorable two furry family members, you have great feedback, a lovely apartment in a fab position, it’s wonderful festive sit opportunity for any sitter.

I also understand your change of choice on sitters. The travel situation is still uncertain for many and while we may put every precaution, required protocol and plan B in place, it’s the travel changes we have no control over which need to be considered. When changes only affect the individual while frustrating it’s manageable, it’s different in a sit situation.

Many more sitters are choosing to stay locally and enjoy sits in their own “backyard” after all the pets and whole experience is what it’s about, not the miles traveled. When I lived on Vancouver Island I discovered so much about the Island through pet sitting staying in places I might otherwise never have seen.

If you would like your listing published on our social channels please let me know, it does give it extra visibility and NYC is a popular destination for members.

Angela and the Team

We bought a small apartment in January 2021 for this very reason. When the pandemic hit we were in Cuba. They asked us to leave or go and stay in a Government hotel. We left and sailed to Key West where we eventually got to book into the US. We sat at anchor for a month, only getting ashore once a week for groceries and water. Eventually, when things started to reopen we managed to sail to Annapolis where we sold our beloved “Ruby Tuesday” and came back to the UK, isolating as we were told. After all that we decided a home base was a must and bought an apartment in Bournemouth where we knew it would be easy to rent it out. We rent the apartment out as a holiday let. In a lockdown no one can go on holiday so it will be empty. I think we have stayed there for a total of six weeks most of which time we were renovating. Found damp and the floors had to be ripped up and stuff replaced underneath.

Thank you so much @Angela_L! I appreciate the offer and I want to take you up on this please. Yesterday, I contacted about 15 sitters that saved my profile. I wanted to be proactive and actively seek out a sitter. They all have sits already, so I definitely want to find someone asap as time is ticking.

Please show my listing on your social media channels. Thanks again!

NYC sits are very popular, so you will probably find someone. If you add a link to the listing in your forum profile, or give enough info here that we can find it (dates and location), people might have suggestions.

Yes, I just put the link to the listing in my profile. Great suggestion. The dates are Dec 24 - Dec 30 in West NY, NJ. It’s for 1 Cool Cat and a Playful Pup. I need for someone to take care of my 2 pets…

Hi @Catin88 I have shared on our Facebook page and on Twitter …
