Bad reviews not being published?

On a pet sit we are doing in the summer, I noticed that the owner had not done a review for her previous sitter and asked why.

She said she had done a review, she didn’t know why it hadn’t showed up.

Was it because the sitter didn’t do a review so the owner’s review wasn’t published?

She said it was a dreadful sit. They left the house in a complete mess, the dog never got taken out. Many nightmare tales….

It’s a shame that other owners are not being warned about this family…

Sometimes HOs or sitters leave a review on Trustpilot.

Earlier, it was very easy for that to happen. I think it was design that THS led people to do that.

The sitter would have had to provide evidence that something in the review was either false or against THS T&C’s to get it removed

Ok thank you. I just feel bad for some unsuspecting owner who’s going to give this family an assignment…

@Lozza Hi and welcome back.

When you click on the sitter’s picture does it open up to the sitter profile? And can you read other home host reviews of the sitter?

If the sitter profile doesn’t load then they may not be members anymore.

I’d avoid these owners. They might be lying.

@Lozza be careful with that one. If they left a review and it isn’t there then maybe it has been removed due to being false.

It’s not the case that it doesn’t show if they didn’t get a review in return.

We avoid owners who complain about previous sitters like that. It’s very rare that things go dramatically wrong with sitters on trusted as one bad review can tank you. Potentially they will say the same about you when you leave.

I say this from experience.

@Enjaybee
Exactly. That was the reason for what I wrote too.

It may be due to the time difference of where the HO’s are based vs THS corporate. I had a submitted review not post. There are 14 days to post, I waited until the 14th day @ 8p and it didn’t post. Why? THS support explained posts are based on London / GMT time and I was in PST; I tried to post 4 hours too late.

Thank you for replying. Yes when I clicked on the sitter, I could read briefly about him and his family. There was one good review. That was the only one.
He hadn’t left a review for the owner we are going to and she hadn’t left a review for him. When I asked her, she initially said that she didn’t know how the reviews worked, then she hesitated before telling us how dreadful they were.
We accepted the assignment on the phone interview, we asked if we could have a loan of a car whilst we are there, for which we would pay the insurance of course, and she has agreed…
now that we have accepted the sit, if I go back to the listing I can’t find any details of previous sitters (at the time I could look, there was only one, the bad family…)

@Lozza the previous sitter should still be showing on the app but will not show up on the web version as they didn’t leave a review. Only past sitters leaving a review show there that’s why its very important to check the app as well to get the full picture. Even if they have since left THS they would still be listed as Former members.

Good advice, I just did a sit where the dog would not go outside for a walk or a pee because she was terrified due to mistreatment as she was a rescue. She had never had a house-sitter on her own and I was kicked out the property because I asked for advise from the owner and they didn’t want to be disturbed. They left a nasty review saying I had mobility issues, I complained about everything, I refused to walk the dog, let the dog go to the loo inside, left the house a mess etc which is all false 100% false. I’ve been sitting for years with 5 star reviews so this one nasty review has tarnished my reputation. I wonder sometimes what goes through some HO minds.

@ESLteacher That sounds really awful. Did you take any pictures? Or do you have any nasty written messages between you? Did you also write them a review? Were you honest about your experience? I would report this situation to THS. Tell them you want to launch a dispute against these HOs. They should be investigated. Maybe you can even get the review removed if you have evidence of falsehood. And ofcourse you must respond to the review- in a calm, factual, non emotional way to tell your side of the story.

I only took one picture of the dog in the living room I don’t tend to take pictures of the property. There were no nasty messages, I’m not that type of person and she didn’t seem it either, even their friend who took over was shocked when I was told to leave and make sure to close the door behind me. I did leave an honest review, written politely pointing out the issue but she just exploded on the reply nastily. I have spoken to THS but they say they haven’t broken any rules, they are allowed there opinion and I was informed all I could do is reply which I did. I wish we could get reviews that are false removed but apparently we can’t even if they are a work of fiction.

@ESLteacher At least her nasty reply will show on HER profile and not yours so other sitters will read it and be warned. Although her review of you is false, your polite response will also be noted by future owners. If they’re doing their homework and checking out prospective sitters, they will also read what you wrote of the sit and the nasty owner response.
Time to pick yourself up and look forward to hopefully sits you already have booked. :hugs:

Thanks yes, I am always professional and polite. I do not see any reason to rant, this review is now being investigated as I am getting to many cancellations with no reasons. Luckily as you said some HOM do read all messages and then will ask questions. I have a booking starting tomorrow in lovely wales I am looking forward to with a HO who did exactly that. I just wish more people would read all messages and ask questions and not jump the gun because someone has accused me of having mobility issues, refusing to walk her dog, messing there house up etc etc which are all 100% incorrect and I have proof and whitnesses to back it up. It just shows you can have years of 5 star reviews nd it just takes one nasty person to ruin everything.
