Can a host extend the sit a few days (during current sit)?

Hi Trusted Friends!

My current petsit host asked us if we wanted to stay longer than our originally planned petsit and it actually works out perfectly for us (5 days longer before we head to our next petsit). I asked her to extend the dates for our stay on our current sit (through the platform) so it would be accurate, but she said she is not able to do so.

Is it possible to extend the dates for a current sit (that has already started)? We are now staying through the 5th. Or does she have to post a new petsit for the rest of the stay and accept my application?

Thanks!
Christina

Can’t you just leave the dates as they are, it’s much easier. Also if you change the dates to coincide with your next sit, it might not be possible as it will show as “already on another sit”. You might cause yourself more of a problem than simply leaving the dates as they are which I, personally, do often and I’m sure many others do also. I wouldn’t complicate the issue for the sake of a few extra days.

They can offer the extra days as a new sit and then you will both be covered should anything happen during that time. That would be the easiest thing to do.

Host is correct they can’t amend the end date of a sit that has already started … however …

They or you can contact member services to do so - if you both agree the change of dates in the THS inbox ( which THS can read ) or send screenshot of the messages where you have discussed and agreed this - then contact member services and ask them to change the dates …use either the Urgent Support Phone line or ask to speak to a human via live chat.

Or

Host can send you a private invitation for the additional dates - it’s still a four step process for this to become a confirmed sit .
Host Invites
You Apply ( one sentence will suffice )
Host confirms
You Agree

It’s important for both parties that one way or another the additional dates are officially recorded as a sit so that it’s covered by THS .

Support@trustedhousesitters.com can make the changes. It is important the dates be accurate for THS coverage and Welcome Guide access.

Hi @christinac. The owner will have to create new dates for the extended days then privately invite you through the inbox.

Yes, that is also important. Emergency contacts, instructions for the final cleanup, etc.

Would very much encourage that you make it official sit dates - for both of you, really. That is what makes it a THS sit. Although everything seems fine now, things can happen.

@christinac, suggest leave THS booking as per original and agree extension directly. Fact that the dates are not entirely accurate in THS platform seems largely irrelevant (unless someone corrects me). Can print (paper or PDF) Welcome Guide for continued access.
For context, we’re currently on a housesit that has that exact feature. Actual sit three days longer than per THS. We’ve also had instances where Pet Parent had issues editing dates on THS - no idea of reason.

Hosts can edit only BEFORE a sit starts. After that, they can ask THS membership services to adjust. Why adjust for accuracy: Any days not covered are left without coverage by THS. So say there’s secondary coverage to the host’s homeowners’ insurance. Then you’ve left to THS or its insurer to decline coverage if there’s a claim.

It’s very relevant for legal, insurance, and liability reasons. If something happens during a sit, it is governed by THS rules. There are systems in place to report and resolve problems and conflicts. If it’s not in the system, THS guidelines do not apply, and it’s all based on goodwill and trust. However, those only work as long as nothing goes wrong.
I had a boss who used to say (when talking about why it’s critical to follow the rules and regs of our trade): “everything is fine as long as everything is fine.”

Hey everyone, thanks for your feedback! I reached out to the support email and all they needed was a screenshot of the communication/confirmation from the host and they changed the dates behind the scenes. Easy peasy!

Just fyi, the support team has been super easy to work with and very helpful!

Thanks for the update @christinac you can tick your recent post to show that the problem has been solved.
:white_check_mark:

(Or tick the post where a member gave you the solution )

That is wonderful @christinac. I would suggest that you mention this in the review. Not in a negative way but one that highlights your flexibility. Such as ‘We were pleased to be able to accommodate the HO’s request to extend the sit by an additional 5 days’. There is no guarantee that they will mention it in their review and you deserve the kudos.
