We’re back in Korea enjoying cherry blossom and azalea season near Seoul before we start a new petsit in a city called Daegu next week. This is one of the reasons I love petsitting with THS. It’s taking us to a new city that we would have never thought of going to. I hope every one of you can experience cherry blossoms somewhere. It’s spectacular.
Love cherry blossom season. Have been lucky to experience it in South Korea, Japan, China, Washington, D.C., and other parts of the U.S. The Asian cities make it much more festive and people turn out in much greater numbers, so it’s a unique experience.
I now live very close to a Japanese garden in the U.S., which had musical performances and especially lighted up the blossoms till late at night, so folks could see them in nocturnal glory as well. Lovely.
D.C. sometimes issues cherry blossom commemorative subway (known as Metro there) cards. This is the last one I got:
I’ve got this print propped up temporarily at my new-to-me house, where I’m finally getting around to hanging up art. This is a nice memento.
For D.C. cherry blossom season, many locals and tourists visit the Tidal Basin, where cherry blossom trees ring the water and you can see their reflection day or night. You also can rent paddle boats and see the blossoms that way, along with the Thomas Jefferson Memorial and (George) Washington Monument, which is lovely and inspiring.
I’ve been meaning to see the cherry blossoms in DC but between three kids and my old workaholic tendencies, I never got around to it. Now cherry blossoms in other cities and countries on my bucket list
In the D.C. area, cherry blossoms also grow for miles and miles along some freeways/highways/roads. I mention that in case you want to combine with a road trip at some point. Like we did one from D.C./Maryland to the Jamestown/Williamsburg/Yorktown historic sites in Virginia during cherry blossom season one year. Gorgeous.
What gorgeous pictures! @IHeartAnimals
We are on a lovely countryside sit in the UK where there are beautiful cherry blossoms in the garden. However our host family are touring Japan and they sent us pictures from the truly spectacular blossoms in Kyoto! Also nightime pics- so magical!
Looks fab @IHeartAnimals - happy homecoming! (we’ve just left Japan & all the stunning Sakura
)
Will you still be in SK at the end of the month? We have a sit in Geoje/Busan/Seoul after Taiwan. Be fabulous to meet you all
@lokstar imagine if those UK people turned out to be my folks tripping round Kyoto with us?!

@Lokstar that’s wonderful to hear. We chose Korea this time around but Japan will also be on our list sometime in the future
@Cuttlefish it would be awesome to meet up. We are in Daegu from April 18-May 3rd and then we will be in Busan in an Airbnb until May 28th. I would love to meet up. I remember a Geoje sit that popped up a while back. Is that where you are sitting?
Yay!! We will be sitting in Geoje until 6 May when you arrive in Busan on the 3rd @iheartanimals. I will DM you #loveitwhenaplancomestogether
What a lovely post @IHeartAnimals I have added this to the “featured topics” area of our Forum homepage so that everyone can share the joy of cherry blossom season!
