Christmas sit

Hello everyone!

I currently have a listing up for my three cats over the Christmas period and am having no luck recieving applications!

We live in a beautiful duplex in Germany where there is a Christmas ice rink and Christmas market available. I’m not sure why it’s getting no response!

Please advise

Hi there,
When did you list? Christmas sits are quite competitive, and many sitters booked their Christmas sit months ago. The best way anyone can help is for you to link your listing so we can view it and give feedback. Here’s how:

Here is the link to my listing and I uploaded this just under a month ago

Great! I took a look for you.
Your introduction and photos are fantastic! However, your home & location and responsibilities sections are very minimal and need a lot more detail. Most of the information currently in your introduction should be moved to your home and location section. In this section, tell sitters:

  • What amenities does your home offer?
  • Where will sitters sleep? How big is the bed?
  • Is there adequate storage space for a sitter’s clothing?
  • Do you have good WiFi & a desk for remote workers?
  • How close are you to public transport?
  • Are food & grocery deliveries available?
  • Can you offer to collect sitters from the nearest airport or station?
  • What is the closest airport to you, and is it easy to get to your town?
  • How is the heating in your home?

Responsibilities section - tell sitters:

  • Where do the cats sleep? (Many sitters don’t want pets sleeping in the room with them)
  • ‘Party all night’ makes it sound as if they may make noise during the night and keep sitters awake. Maybe try a better way of describing their sleeping habits?
  • What are the cats personalities? Do they get along? Are they shy or cuddly?
  • Do the cats need playtime and have toys?
  • Are the cats allowed anywhere in the house?

Your introduction should also tell sitters who you’re looking for (a couple, singles, people with or without pets etc) and what are your expectations for a handover (should sitters arrive a day in advance, for example?)

Hope that helps!

Agree with @Nagy26 :100: but wanted to add a few more suggestions:

I would suggest less on the activities that people can do around your home and focus more on you and your family. Talk about more of the home. How big it is. Only one bathroom? What size bed? Are you looking for a single person or a couple? Also, some of your pictures are dark (most sitters prefer seeing more bright pictures showing details). Take pictures of the whole kitchen in one picture so sitters can see scale of it…same with living room (not just sofa). Lastly, show a picture of the front of the home so sitters can see where they will be accessing the house. Are there stairs they need to go up (especially people with luggage this would be a concern).

When talking about the cats…definitely take out the party all night part. This would detract most sitters as they think sound sleep would be an issue. You might mention that they get some early morning zoomies, but leaving some dry food out would help or even some playtime before bed. IF they really are up all night, do you have a situation that you do to help ensure restful sleep? Do the cats go in a certain room, etc.

Best of luck. Some of us are still looking for Christmas sits, so give it time and the right sitter will come!

Ps. The heating in the house and also maybe picking them up from airport or train station (just to help show them the way, etc) would be definite must adds in our book too.

I have just updated could you possibly take a look a see if this is any better? Thank you!!

I have just updated it now, could you take a look and tell me what you think! I will work on updating the photos tomorrow! I am getting very worried we won’t find anyone in time!

Looking much better and I hope you find somebody! I would just move the part about the cats personalities at the bottom of the home and location section to the responsibilities, as the responsibilities section is where descriptions of the pets belong

I would also mention in the home and location section if you have streaming services, good WiFi and wardrobe space for a sitter’s clothing. Is the sitter’s room your room or a guest room? You haven’t filled out the ‘bedroom’ and other sections of your amenities, so consider completing that.

Hope that helps!

I just looked at your listing and saw that you made the changes others have suggested. Great. Your location looks great and the home looks spacious, clean and inviting. The only minor change I would make is to not call the bed a double. In the US, a double bed is narrower than what a Doppelbett in Germany is. Maybe include the dimensions in order to attract sitters from outside of the EU? Good luck!

Your listing now says not currently in need of a sitter, so it looks like you’ve found someone.

Looks like a fab place/pets

Have you had success in getting a suitable sitter @ellenaexplores? We’d all love to know if the help given has worked for you!

There is probably nothing wrong with your listing. (But certainly others can help you with that.) There are so many Christmas sits! This makes it a sitter’s market! Many “full time” sitters have Christmas planned in advance. Casual sitters like me, may sit out Christmas either to be with family or because airfares are super high. Last year, the spouse and were considering going somewhere – maybe a sit – over the Christmas holidays, but gave up the plan when we looked at airfare.

If your sit is appealing, you might still find someone who will be in the area or able to travel with their own car.

@ellenaexplores It looks like you have found a sitter. Congratulations and the listing looks much more professional and appealing. Great job and best of luck in the future. Happy Holidays to you and your family! :christmas_tree:
