Coming soon! New pet-centric sitter tags 🐾

@Shella_in_the_Forum It was surely in response to the vast tranche of user complaints about the way the profile section was organised and presented. I mean, it’s not like there are any other more serious and pressing matters to deal with

Oh, and another thing: The photos one may add to the list of 10 pets cared for in the past. There is obviously a file size limit for that but they didn’t tell us that because it’s much more fun to have us upload-fail-resize-still fail-resize again, obvs.

Don’t get me started @Saltrams . I had to do it many times over and then resort to the laptop to make it work once images were resized….bahhhhhh Plus no one told us they were adding all the extra info features to complete on our profiles, I just found them by chance :flushed::flushed:

Hi @Ben-ProductManager - it has been five weeks now. Any update on whether the change will be applied to all sitter profiles or whether it will revert to how it was?

@Ben-ProductManager I share the frustrations of others here, who are seeing their carefully crafted profiles ā€˜rejigged’ without their consent or knowledge.

In the past it’s been suggested that, if sitters have an important message for owners - such as being unavailable until a certain date - that it should be added at the start of our profile. Given I have many reviews and references, that important message of mine now takes a lot of scrolling before being seen by an owner.

This rejigging test is no doubt taking productivity hours away from the priority list of tasks. I’ve just done a search of the forum and found a staff member post from July of 2021 showing ā€˜the mutual review/feedback system (which is being reviewed)’. The review system overhaul, which I realize is complex, is once again giving productivity hours to what must surely be a less important revamp.

I also have an issue with the new section, Introduce owners to the pets you’ve cared for. To respect an owners privacy, I request the permission of owners before I use a photo of their pet on the internet. In my case, it’s for my blog only. I do not add them to my profile. I realize owners put photos of their pets on this website, but that’s their choice. Also, many of my previous owners are no longer members on this site. I could add photos of me, decades ago, with pets I’ve owned, but is that really relevant? So I have left that section blank, at the risk of an owner interpreting that negatively.

Like another forum member commented recently, I have almost given up on contributing to the forum content, for a variety of frustrating reasons. Instead, I read here selectively, to try and stay current. However, I truly am tired of seeing paid members being manipulated and disregarded (yep, including the pausing rule). I’ve certainly lost a lot of pride in being a member of TrustedHousesitters.

@Knowmad - thanks for bringing this to our attention.

To further confuse the matter, profiles appear in original order on the app but not on the website.

Oh no. For me, both app and the web page show the profile info in almost the same order (web has photos before reviews):

Reviews and references
Photos
About
Why I want to pet sit
Experience
Pet experience (just the icons)
Calendar

Hi Everyone thank you for all of your comments on the test …

We have passed all of your comments to the Product Team …

Thank you also to @Snowbird you’re always a welcome contributor, you are missed but I’m sorry you’ve only felt compelled to post because of a concern and @Saltrams another good to see you again. Your thoughts have been passed on.

For me the app has
Photos
Reviews & references
About us
Why I want to sit
Experience

But the website is a complete different order .

What a muddle !

@Ben-ProductManager as the test has finished already - when is this going to be fixed ?

Thanks to the OP who brought this up. I had no idea. I have a comment about our currently availability at the top of our profile so I guess I will add the same comment to both sections now so it shows up on the app as well as the web.

Hello everyone,

We have run an a/b test over the last 3-4 weeks where we have made the profile more pet focussed. This test has now concluded with results being that this drives success and was positive for the platform.

The new layout and new fields will be available to all members across all platforms over the coming weeks.

Many Thanks, Ben

So what is new:

To better help our pet parent members find their ideal sitter and for sitters to strengthen profile (boost your chances of landing that perfect sit)

We will be adding the following to Sitter profiles:

  • Whether a sitter has experience with specific types of pets (such as puppies or senior dogs)
  • If they can administer medication
  • If the sitter is also a pet parent (or if they’ve ever owned pets in the past)
  • If the sitter has previously cared for (or owned) a specific breed of pet
  • Total years of pet sitting experience

You’ve summed it up brilliantly @Snowbird what many of us very experienced and faithful members feel.
Whenever I see/read THS is running a test @Ben-ProductManager I already know what the outcome is going to be! I’m not sure why members bother to raise their concerns or have input when it falls on deaf ears because the decision has already been made.

@Ben-ProductManager thank you for the update .
Whilst we wait for this to be rolled out please can those who were part of the test have their profiles realigned across both platforms so that we don’t miss out on any more sits because our profiles don’t make sense ?

@Ben-ProductManager
How was this measured?
I’m sure you will be only too happy to share some quantitative data from the test that supports this conclusion. If you can, it might go some way to restoring members trust in the company and its management.

@Kelownagurl we’ve done just that. Our profile looks a bit weird now.

Good on you @Snowbird for voicing what the rest of us experienced sitters feel. We are definitely the minority voices now :frowning: For THS it seems to be about quantity of sitters over quality now, and of course $$. The ultimate A/B test for them will be their reputation strength.

I am a sitter, not HO, so don’t know how HO’s actually search for a sitter as in their ability to select certain criteria, but I’d of thought most sitters, possibly with the exception of the last point, would’ve included all this information in their profile or been directed to do so when they first sign up and create their profile?

Like others have said, how this was measured would be interesting to know. Summer is here, (for some of us,) as are school holidays in the UK and parts of Europe, so sits are going to be filled quickly as it’s peak holiday time for owners with kids and those who are teaching staff.

I’d of preferred priority to have been given to the review and feedback overhaul.

They made changes to our profiles without telling us. This is what HO look at when they consider having us as their sitter. The claim is that we were not told because they wanted to look at sitter behaviors without us knowing. But someone noticed. I didn’t because I’m not applying at the moment.
We pay for this membership. THS owes us an apology. What ever research they are doing it shouldn’t involve making changes to the profiles we have put work into setting up without our knowledge.

We are new members (Owners) here on THS. We listed our first sit and filled it quite rapidly. I’m exploring the Forums and trying to be as knowledgeable and savvy as possible as an Owner.

That said, the discourse in this post and the concerns raised by sitters is very concerning.
