Continental Europe Search vs UK/Ireland Being Included

This was posted in the past, going on three years now since last, and the search is STILL the same. I have posed this to “support” directly, and more than once, and nothing gets done. Perhaps if more people raise a voice about this to them they MIGHT take the time to make the change. I mean, now that nearly everyone is paying per-sit it sure would be nice, as a sitter, to have a cleaner, speedier process in searching for sits in the places I want, as opposed to having to Search & Save 7 specific countries in continental Europe and have to click and refresh each one regularly throughout the day as the push notifications are RARELY timely.

SO, issue being: when searching for sits in continental Europe one has to choose each country individually insteading of having a “Continental Europe” option, keeping sits in the UK and Ireland separate and searching THOSE individually instead of the searching 44 countries individually. No? The sits available for the Continent are so few and far between still, with the UK always having an abundance of sits, sits that can’t even get filled there are so many. I am finding it rather tiresome to have to either page through 750 sits in the UK to get to the 5 listings on the Continent, or to have to create and save a search for all of the countries I’m interested in doing a sit in.

With all of the “improvements” made to the platform (ha ha) I can’t imagine how this one keeps slipping out of sight and mind. Do the sitters a solid, @TrustedTeam, there are a lot of us out here and our membership fees and per-sit fees are what are mostly keeping this platform afloat!!!

Danke, merci, grazie mille, thank you!!!

They simply don’t care, is the only conclusion, I’m afraid.

I know I’m shouting to the void but I can’t help myself! :joy:

It is not ideal, but I do this search with my computer, and carefully cut Europe separate from UK. Then add separate map cut for France/Spain/Portugal. This way I have just two saved searches to cover EU.

Hi @mikomeko

Thanks for sharing.

Exploratory work is currently underway to understand how search can be improved.

We’ll share more updates as soon as we’re able to to.

Thank you for sharing your process but I am striving for actual solutions to this and hopefully will see one soon, as in SOON.

I have been asking for this for at least 9 months now, it cannot be that difficult to work this, even work exchange platforms have it down, even the rudimentary platforms have it dialed in!! Thank you!

It’s been asked for for several years…..

No doubt it has, they really just don’t care, do they. It is not a monumental feat to achieve, the most rudimentary work exchange platforms seem to be able to achieve it, one guy running the entire show and he seems to be able to manage it just fine!

That’s good to hear, Mark, but I don’t think any further feedback is needed on this specific issue (continental Europe vs UK) since it’s been asked for over and over again. I’m just hoping this ‘exploratory work’ is not taking years to come to fruition.

I’d like a refinement to this search function, rather than Continental Europe I suggest the Schengen Zone. Once the new EES (Entry and Exit System) and ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) are fully rolled out, later this year, then visitors from countries that are visa exempt need only apply online for an ETIAS to have entry to 29 countries. Visa exempt countries include the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

It shouldn’t be too difficult to write the code to enable a Schengen search and i’m disappointed, but nor surprised that it still isn’t available. How hard can it be and why aren’t the requests being enacted? Don’t THS understand the value of such a function?

I think Schengen is getting too detailed, we who travel the European continent will already know what countries are Schengen and non-Schengen, I don’t see a real need for that. I’d be happy with the simple request I’ve already stated. Keep UK and Ireland on their own, the rest of Europe on its own, there just aren’t enough sits posted in mainland Europe to justify breaking it all down into Schengen and non-Schengen, you’d have to distinguish between them anyway if you were just travelling around, not using THS, no? Let’s keep it simple here, it’s difficult enough getting them to do simple things, anything more than simple and it really will never happen!

@Mark_B, cheering on team related efforts. Lots sensible ideas already on Forum, often by significant number of members.

Yep. I keep fantasizing about a filter in the drop down menu (in the “where do you want to sit” field) that says “Europe EXCEPT the UK” - alas…I use the map and work hard to strategically cut UK out of the field of vision on the map - still it usually posts many UK listings.

I saved Europe among the searches @mikomeko and I am actually interested in all Countries including Ireland but UK, although only for sittings longer than 4 weeks and for a specific period of time, so it’s not too bad as I don’t get too many notifications.

Yes, there should be a possibility to introduce more areas and filter accordingly so that we don’t get bombarded with messages.

It would probably take about half an hour work. There’s no interest, that’s all.

Or perhaps there’s some genius thinking that if they keep pushing UK listings in our search results, they might encourage people to change their destination.
