Please, please, please THS can we have a filter to search for Europe, without UK. I know we can look via the map, but it is preferable to view as a list. This has been asked countless times by many members. Do you listen to us, to what the members would prefer? It’s an easy alteration for your website team. Many other housesitting websites can do it. Come on THS
Agreed. And I would think it would literally take seconds to implement.
+1 from me.
The UK is in Europe! I think it’s the EU you mean.
Yes, I know UK is in Europe. But it is separate from ‘mainland’ Europe. Some of us find it frustrating sifting through all the UK sits, trying to find the sits on the mainland.
That’s like asking to be able to search the US without Florida. The UK is a part of Europe.
No, it is not. The problem is that on THS, about 90 % of available European sits at any moment is in the UK.
Also, it is an island, so a bit more difficult to get to, and for several additional reasons not that attractive for us on the mainland to travel to.
I would disagree. United Kingdom is part of Europe therefore it should be included in any European search. I’m sorry people find it difficult but we (or anyone else) cannot change geography.
I know it is very time consuming searching all the individual European countries but that is our choice.
And it should take a competent programmer just a few seconds to fix that for us. They recently added continents. They should have added EU while they were at it. It had been a longstanding request from sitters - that does not count much.
If a division were to be made within European searches, might it be more useful to be able to filter Schengen/non-Schengen countries, ie. those affected by the 90/180 rule and those not?
Yes, of course one wants to include Norway and Switzerland in such a search. And Iceland, and all the Balkan countries.
That would be “more” useful to those subject to Schengen rules, and would be a great additional filter. I would still like to search for “Europe excluding UK” and have been asking for this for years.
@ElsieDownie - It is not a case of changing geography (if I was asking that UK be removed from Europe, there would be no need to say “excluding UK” because it wouldn’t be included to begin with), it’s to be able to do a search of mainland Europe. At the moment, the UK has the overwhelming majority of Europe sits and it is very difficult to use the map to narrow the search without still having part of the UK showing. If, say, Greece monopolized the search results to the extent that the UK does now, I would ask for a filter to exclude Greece.
My point is that I can search ‘UK’ on its own. So why does the UK need to be included in a ‘Europe’ search too?
You’re absolutely right. Schengen/ non-Schengen would be the way to go.
I want to search Spain. So why does Spain have to be included in an European search? It’s very easy to search individual countries but very difficult to search areas.
Last two years we have travelled in the US. It would have been great to search areas such as the Midwest or Northern States etc but we had to travel through the whole of the US. Europe is not the only problem
There is no need for trudging through all of the US listings for that. You just do a map search and save that as “Midwest” or whatever you want to call the area:
(Yes of course, THS should also have the opportunity for “US minus Florida” etc, but that is just a little bit more difficult to program. Maybe too expensive for this 100 million company. Adding “EU” would not have cost them anything.)
So I have to use the map but people searching Europe without UK have to have a special feature?
I’m out of here…….
Look, I was trying to help you search the Midwest.
It is always surprising to me when members oppose demands that THS use the annual fee to do some decent programming. I think it would make good business sense for the investors to listen to customers, in the longer run.
It’s almost impossible to position the map so that one gets all of Europe without the UK. How about we call it ‘Contentinal Europe’? Back in the day - wasn’t that a thing? We’re going to ‘the continent’ and everyone knew what it meant.
Because, as I mentioned above, using the map to search for all of mainland Europe is impossible without having part of the UK (and therefore all UK sits) showing. Try it.
