I did a sit in Istanbul Turkey for 5 days in mid June 2024. My hosts did not ask for a copy of my passport .

Don’t know why a home owner would need it for the Government. Could understand if it was a hotel……

I have been to some countries where a host has to register someone (even in a private home), but that is always on arrival, and you can just go with the person to the office or whatever.

Edited to defer to someone who KNOWS :slight_smile: Keep reading!

Edited to indicate that @cuttlefish has the best solution below since they know Turkey well.

There’s a new rule in Turkey :tr: where you have to declare all non direct relatives staying in your property when you’re not in residence to the local gendarme. Even if you’re not an Airbnb or hotel. Law changed this January so it’s a fair ask or there’s a big risk of a fine or them turfing you out the house potentially @Genevere #itsafairask

They should have but Istanbul is less risky than say Fethiye or Bodrum @barbara.wood777 just because it’s so huge

Don’t try and work with the government directly. There are too many layers over here and you’ll create carnage for yourself. Just let the HO register you as a guest with the local gendarme & you’re good to go. Law changed Jan 2024. #insideinfo

@Genevere @Cuttlefish has answered your question .

Just some additional information is that for entry into Turkey your passport must:

  • be valid for at least 150 days from the date you arrive
  • have a full blank page for entry and exit stamps
