Great share @Maggie8K

I haven’t visited Croatia myself, but I’ve heard great things about Split, Dubrovnik and Hvar - both affordable and beautiful from what I understand.

Who has been to Croatia?
Do you have any recommendations?

I’ve been looking into digital nomad visas in a few countries and will add this to my list. I spent about a month in Croatia several years ago and loved Split and Zagreb. It would be a good place to spend a year or so.

@Mark_B I have been to Croatia, an amazing country, full of surprises! We drove down the length of the country, from North to South, and were impressed with what we found. There is a beautiful Roman amphitheatre, built between 27BC and 68AD in Pula, in the North, and is the only remaining Roman amphitheatre to have 4 side towers entirely preserved.

Croatia has several National Parks and the one we visited was Plitvička, a beautiful area of lakes and waterfalls which is well organised, with clearly marked paths and boat trips on the lakes.

One interesting discovery that we made was a wave operated organ in Zadar. As the waves of the sea lap onto the shore they play an organ

Two fabulous cities well worth visiting are Split, where a wander around the Diocletian’s Palace is well worth it and, of course, Dubrovnik. Words cannot do justice to the beauty of Dubrovnik, that can be truly appreciated with a walk around the top of the city walls. Once you have built up an appetite, a dining experience awaits at the Taj Mahal. No, not an Indian restaurant, but Bosnian, and the food was delightful! And don’t forget to try the National dish of Croatia, Peka, a meat and vegetable dish, slow cooked to perfection.

Sjleme mountain & gondola. North of Zagreb. Ski hill (limited terrain) in winter. Beautiful trip in October.
@Mark_B, re your question then so far we have found Croatia to be both affordable and beautiful. The two-tram trip from city centre to mountain base cost EUR0.53.

@Sam_F Oh wow, these pics are amazing.

The amphitheatre alone is stunning, but the ‘wave organ’ is so cool - I haven’t seen anything like that before.

The picture of Dubrovnik habour with the blue water and beautiful castle walls is simply perfect… and now I’m googling Peka!

My list of places I want to visit feels unending, but I think Croatia has just been bumped up the list a few more places.

Dubrovnik is nice but kinda intense with tourists, and it felt overpriced fast. Split felt more livable and relaxed, good food, walkable, easy beaches.

Once I stayed there longer and started moving around Europe, the practical stuff kicked in, especially how my income was still tied back to the US.

My home state could claim a share if residency was not handled right, so I used SavvyNomad to clean up my domicile and state tax setup, which made the whole experience feel much smoother.
