Death of A Pet You've Cared For

This year, we’ve heard that three of the pets we’ve previously cared for have died. We felt privileged that the HOs opted to share their sad news with us.

This Christmas, we received further messages from those lovely HOs, including:

‘Thank you again for all the love you gave her on your visits, and the lovely photos and videos you took and shared.’

and

‘You were part of his story, and we appreciate you so much for giving him the same love we did.’

We especially loved these particular pets and shed tears when we heard they’d passed, so we’re proud that their families feel able to share their grief with us (and we sincerely hope that makes things a little easier for them).

This surely is house sitting at its most special.

We lost our much loved tuxedo about 2 weeks after a short sit. The sitter was here for a second visit and has friends in my town, so at this point I think of her as an honorary niece who is NOT allergic to my cats and is welcome to stay here when we are away. He was 15 and had a chronic but manageable condition, but something unexpected happened and we made the best decision we could. I debated even telling the sitter, but I let her know. She sent me some photos she hadn’t shared beforeand they showed him being him, still enjoying his little life. It was a great comfort to me because I’d been feeling like I might have missed something, that maybe I should have done something sooner to end his pain or to have prevented what happened. So it’s very sad, but I think reaching out to them maybe with a photo you didn’t share before and something about your experience would be a good gesture.

@Marion, you seem like a super caring lover of all cats and I can’t imagine you did anything wrong with your late cat. Seems like you were lucky to have each other.
