Feature request: More filters

I appreciate the new features that have been added on house sit listings such as whether additional guests or pets are allowed. It would be really great if we could filter for things like that when searching for sits, or for saved searches. Some features that would be useful:

  • Guests allowed
  • Pets allowed
  • Amount of time pets can be left alone
  • Amount of walking time required for dogs
  • Size of dog
  • Whether you are already booked at a conflicting time. The default should be to hide conflicting sits
  • Allow filtering for multiple types of pets instead of just one or all. Eg, dogs and chickens okay, but no cats
  • Allow filtering for the number pets
  • Add a search functionality that allows the sitter to find keywords mentioned in the description (eg “skiing” or “home gym”)

I am a software developer and I know that these features aren’t very hard to implement. You have the data because you display it on the profiles. It would be very helpful if you could add these filters and search to streamline our ability to find sits that match our needs.

Are additional filters in the works?

Yes, I want not to see sits with low time for leaving pet alone. That´ll affect them hosts.

However I dont want an automatic feature hiding any sits. Even if I have overlapping sit, I have numerous reasons waiting to see it. I can limit the dates in the search by myself.

Some of the reasons: I know the host and can contact them privately to arrange something. The host has other dates listed so I can contact and arrange something. (Arrange something = usually that my partner and me slip up for couple of days). I like the listing and want to add it to my likes.

Number of animals would be great. I can do 2 dogs or cats. I see some sits with 6 dogs, 13 cats, nope not for me, I just can’t get my head around that many. Nearly 10,000 available sits at the moment and nothing I want, boy I must be picky:rofl:

Yes, when I said “hide by default,” that doesn’t mean that there’s not an option to see it. There can be a toggle labeled “Show conflicting sits” or however they want to word it, which is set to false/off unless the person searching toggles it on

100%, more than 3 is almost always gonna be too much. I wouldn’t do it unless I’m planning a trip with more people than just my partner to help out, in which case the “Guests allowed” filter would also be very useful

Voted! The current filtering system for sitters very much out dated…

I think you should offer your services to THS as, clearly, they seem to be finding software development challenging, to say the least!

Hi @lucylovesdogs

Thanks for your suggestions!

I’ve passed them over to the team - if I get any feedback I’ll let you know.

Honestly I would, though I don’t think they’re hiring in the US.

How many of the recent changes and updates have been because of requests from members? How many have been decided by THS as that’s what the members need?

Great suggestions!

I would LOVE a way to do the opposite of “favorite” (or “save) and X out a sit that I have already viewed and know it is not a match for us. SO annoying to have to look at the same listings over and over that we already know we wouldn’t apply for.

I would love a filter for also narrowing the field in Europe when you don’t want to include the UK (no offense but there are just so many sits there and it’s not on our radar - we chase the sun mostly. Lol) Like “Europe except for UK” or “continental Europe" or something.

Would love a filter “pets need to sleep with humans”

Our keyword we’d search for is “sitters can use your bicycle” (I know this is listed in amenities sometimes but we’d use it as a keyword search)

Would love a filter for how many bedrooms available to sitters - some sitters travel in pairs that don’t sleep well sharing a EU sized bed (am always amazed at some listings that say very little about the actual home!) - my husband and daughter have done sits together, for example, and even we as a couple cannot share most EU standard size beds.

Hi @lucylovesdogs

Thanks for your feature request.

Exploratory work is currently ongoing with members to understand how we can improve search.

More information will be shared with the forum as we move forward.

Filters will only help if HO set up correctly. Just got alerted to a sit in Brussels. Open to couples. Then the listing says single only, I will reject couples :person_shrugging: so a waste of my time and also theirs.

This! Many of us have asked for this. Both sitters and homeowners need to be able to block folks they know will never be a match.

Yep. I’ve seen this request on the forum multiple times. It’s truly

a significant amount of wasted time not to have that feature available.

It seems like a very simple filter, no?

The OP of this thread is a software developer and can likely confirm this.

How do we get The Powers That Be to heed our repeated request??

@Jenny any thoughts?

I don’t get it  most of these features are already available
But what’s the point of more filters when the ones we have don’t work (properly) anyway??

@co_ri_na which filter are you saying exists already from the list of suggestions by members above?
