Please can you recommend any online first aid for pets courses…. most seem to include setting up a pet sitting business which I have no interest in. I’d just like to ensure that I’m up to date with current best practices across a wider range of pets.
We looked into it when we started a year ago, and I couldn’t find anything that provided a suitable level of knowledge anywhere up North, lots of flimsy silly ‘I’ve got a certificate’ type ones, but nothing of any real use. The RSPCA & PDSA used to do first aid courses, but they stopped a number of years ago (maybe the pandemic stopped them).
We were given a name of an ex-vet that did the odd course, but getting her to respond to emails to let me know when her next course one was very frustrating, she replied to say she’d let me know, then sent an email a couple of months later to say she’d forgot to let me know, then I sent another asking her for dates, and heard nothing… then I gave up as our calendar was full.
There maybe there are more out there now, I’ve never looked into it again, or maybe the pandemic put the block on them and they just never re-started, who knows.
I’ve found a few 4 hour basic courses nearby run by RSPCA and DogsTrust but looking at the content- I already know it
….and they charge £59!
I’ve just paid for a Centre of Excellence online course using a 70% discount code so it’s cost me £29 it’s a Canine Care Course with 10 modules, but again it seems pretty basic …. although a good reminder/refresh of stuff. The Feline one is another 10 modules….
I knew this had been discussed on the forum before, so here’s a link:
Yes I searched for previous threads… but was particularly looking for up to date courses in England or UK focussed if ONLINE as so much has changed in recent years around ‘best practice’ especially with rabbits/guinea pigs also the care of poultry with Bird Flu being widespread.
