Greetings from Venice, Italy

We have been housesitting for three years now, part-time though. I, Heleen (46), was born and raised in the Netherlands. My husband, Milton (56), was born in Suriname (who knows where that country is located), lived in New York for 28 years, and is now a resident of the Netherlands.

We are currently in Venice, which is the perfect time to be here with no tourists in sight. On the other side, all museums are closed too. Luckily, there is still plenty to see and explore when we are not working on our online projects.

Looking forward to doing a housesit over Xmas, as we do miss being around animals very much! So fingers crossed we will find one in Italy or nearby soon!

Hi Heleen … what a gorgeous photo, thank you for sharing!

Welcome to our community Forum we’re so glad you have joined and thank you for being part of our amazing community for the past three years, do you have a Christmas sit confirmed yet, if so where will you be and more importantly WHO (apart from husband Milton) will you be sharing Christmas with?

We hope you will enjoy the conversations and being part of our new Forum, it really is wonderful to see so many TrustedHousesitters from all over the world connecting with one another and sharing stories.

Thank you again,

Angela and #TeamTrusted

Hi Angela,

No sit confirmed yet! We are applying to some, but we only apply to those that are within a 6 hours train ride or in Germany, as we want to spend January in the Netherlands.

Thanks for your welcome… I am not a forum person, but I do like THS a lot!

hello @heleenwesterman, lucky you to visit Venice without tourists, huge ships that spoil the view on grand canal, facing the Giudeca.
Being an owner and a sitter as well I learn a lot on this forum. Hope you’ll like some of our discussions.

No cruise ships now for sure! We feel that we are very lucky indeed to be in Venice right now. although the city does suffer from the lack of tourists. So many people’s livelihood depends on it.

Thanks! With or without a housesit, in lock-down or not in lock-down, we will have great time for sure

That’s definitely the best attitude to keep. We’re in control of our own perceptions and much or our happiness, so why not enjoy every possible second?

An Italian welcome for you! I like to “meet” & know other community members in Italy (although really, you are competition to me as a sitter :joy:). We are in Lazio, between Roma & Rieti. And do I get a prize for knowing where Suriname is please?

Hi Saltrams, no worries! We don’t live in Italy haha… And you haven’t told me where Suriname is, so how can I give you a price for where it is??
