Happy World Book Day

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy day. Perhaps a bit late for Australia and Asia but still on time for America.

We might also declare today as the International New Forum Member Day. I’ve never seen such a concentration of new posters on a single day.

A warm welcome to all new members.

I’ve been searching the web and it seems it’s a bigger celebration in Spain than other places. The biggest and most traditional celebration is in Catalonia where people give a book and a rose.
In Madrid there’s a continuous reading aloud of Don Quixote, this tradition was started 30 years ago.

This is a brief BBC video about World Book Day

Are there any special celebrations in your country?

Wow! I didn’t realise that about the continuous reading of ‘Don Quixote’ in Madrid! That must be an all nighter! Interesting, thank you :folded_hands:

23 April was my father’s birthday, who always mentioned he shared it with Shakespeare. He would have been 98 yesterday

Thank you! Fascinating

Thanks. I didn’t know that. I always assumed it would be on the 23rd because of Shakespeare.

I read about yesterday’s celebration in Catalonia and they sold over 7 million roses and over two million books.

@Newpetlover, as avid readers then what a wonderful shout-out and celebration .

Many UK schools ask pupils (and staff) to dress as a character from a book on World Book Day.

This is why I spent 5th March dressed as a chicken!

Some schools in Spain do that on the 23rd of April but mostly we do book clubs, book crossings, book markets, reading aloud, plays and even cook recipes from books.

Tangentially, in Portland, Oregon, in the U.S. Pacific Northwest:
