I’m just curious if anyone has ever had a sit where a pet Tarantula was involved. I have a friend in Sweden who has several . Here’s an article i found online. They’re supposedly gentle. However I’m not even sure THS would allow them. Inquiring minds would like to know.
A great question to ask member services since all tarantulas are venomous. So this may meet the criteria of “inherently dangerous “ and therefore forbidden on the platform.
The T&Cs specify that Venomous snakes are forbidden (no matter how weak the venom) . I don’t know if the same applies for all venomous creatures .
“5.2.11. not have any inherently dangerous pets (such as venomous snakes or constrictors, primates, wolves or wolf hybrids, non-domesticated cats, alligators), banned dog breeds, or any animal with a history of attacks on pets or people;”

Please report back on the MS reply , it will be useful to know .
I was also curious if anyone has experienced one possibly that wasn’t disclosed. My friend in sweden has several, and handles them, yet has never been bit. Their venom is not dangerous for humans…mostly I was curious that’s all.
I have sat a big hairy spider, not sure if it was a tarantula (I did not ask, maybe did not really want to know…). It was not in the listing, and it did not require anything.
I was offered to hold it it my hand, but I declined. I was afraid that I would not be able to control a shudder and throw it through the room.
That’s what I’m curios about. I’ve never encountered one on a sit, snakes, but that was non THS for a friend.
Tarantulas are big and hairy, and there are several varieties.
Haven’t intentionally sat any spiders. But I’ve seen a few on some of my sits.
Ive not yet sat for a tarantula but I’ve slept in the same room as one. It didnt move - maybe it was scared of me.
Year’s ago while living in Guatemala I visited Tikal National Park. The guide picked up a Tarantula at one point and attempted to pass it around to anyone who wanted to hold it. Firstly, i disagreed with his lack of respect and Secondly no, I’m not going to hold it.
I saw a sit with a tarantula listed alonng with many other animals. Said no care required but welcome to look at it. Kids wanted to apply, I did not. I wouldn’t be able to rest, even with it safely housed in another room.
I used to do work exchanges pre kids, and once I worked in a tiny hostel mostly used by locals near the Australian outback. One day it unexpectedly hailed and loads of redback came seeking shelter. One hid behind the toilet , and a fair few on the concerte patio next to my room. when I told the hostel owners they were just like they like to live there, don’t worry. I must’ve told every single person who came to the hostel in the hope that someone would do something but literally everyone told me not to worry about it.
I didn’t sleep or use the toilet for about a week. Couldn’t wait to leave it was so stressful.
Once upon times i sat for anaconda
One of my dad’s assistants years ago used to breed them! She thankfully didn’t bring any into work but did bring in the skins post shedding. That was enough for me!
Wow! That’s wild, literally. I probably wouldn’t have slept either.
Seriously, someone had that large of a snake as a pet, where was it?
Last year I saw a listing in Australia with a cute dog and a couple of pythons. The location was great. I didn’t apply; although I could have managed as no feeding was required during the sit, I don’t approve of wild animals being kept as pets.
I also saw a listing in Berlin with giant African snails. I didn’t have a clue what they were. I googled it and was shocked. I was tempted to report it but I don’t really know what is legal where. I would bet they are illegal in Germany but I really don’t know.
Pythons are constrictors and not permitted on THS - I have in the past seen dozens of listings with them but more recently have not seen any . I think THS went through all the listings with pythons and removed them .
To get round it some owners just describe their pet as a snake but it’s easy enough to goggle and find out if it’s a python or another constrictor or venomous snake.
I used to filter not to include reptiles in my search for sits but then I realised that I was missing out on sits with a tortoise and I would like to do a sit with one of them . My friends have a tortoise that is over 50 years old and is part of the family.
Sorry OP I have diverted from the subject of Tarantulas
yea it was somewhere in the africa. It was my second sat which was after for sat lions.
Tortoises are great! I have family who have an Asian Box Turtle named Mel who’s 55 year’s old. He’s had him since college. Even though I’m opposed to exotic species as pets unfortunately msny get bred and still need a safe environment. Mel is semi-aquatic so he has access to water, but also roams around the house. I’ve sat for them and sometimes he gets stuck in corners and i had to rescue him. I’ve also had a private sit for a friend’s Bearded Dragon named Jedi. I had to give her a barh which was fun.
Jesus Christ, they didn’t mention that in their listing!?!?! That would have been a reason for cancellation for me. I’m so afraid of spiders.
This spider did not require me to do anything. It was securely in its terrarium. I never even looked at it, if it was still alive.
So it was less scary than ordinary spiders in the house. I don’t remember seeing any, but there were cob webs in the shed
