Help, I can't edit my listing

So I was trying to be helpful on the forum by offering some editing tips to someone with a listing who wasn’t getting many responses. I went to my own listing to check how things were sectioned off because there were some recent changes. What I found was something so streamlined there was no place for me to edit any of the text. I couldn’t get to anything I’d written and might want to change or take off because it was no longer relevant or there was some recent change.

I can no longer describe my apartment or give any details about the neighborhood. I can no longer fix a typo someone brought to my attention. I can change details about pets or say medication, but I can’t really explain them eg if the meds are drops that are easy to give versus a pill that’s hard to swallow.

I can still list mass transit as an amentiy but can’t change already there even if the information changes.

I can’t add or change details explaining anything regarding arrival or departure beyond what the forms allow – eg: remote handovers possible if times don’t work etc.

I’m afraid everything in my listing will disappear or be “improved” against my will.

The changes will make it much harder for me to attract the sitters I want and much more difficult to assess whether or not the sit will work for them.

I hope this is a temporary glitch. I’m thinking of writing member services. But I almost fear the answer. We have a sit planned in July. We have a sitter coming in July. I don’t know at this point what I am going to do beyond that in terms of posting new listings if previous sitters aren’t interested.

Moderation note: edited title

I think you are simply having technical issues with the editing. It has been a thing here… I know I had to do some trial and error to update some things I wanted to after changes were made to the platform (im a Dual Member). Maybe it is related to the required selection for the type of photos you have in the profile, Try fixing that first only, then save. Use your computer, not the app. You have to pick the room for every single pic, then save, then maybe you can edit? That includes if yu want to delete pictures and add in new ones. It seems you have to conform to the new settings before editing the old stuff, does that make sense?

Hi @Marion

Sorry to hear this, I’m inclined to agree with @MTBer, it sounds like something has gone a little wonky.

Some initial, questions, ideas and suggestions;

  • Are you using the TrustedHousesitters app or web?
  • What device are you using? Laptop, iOS, Android etc
  • If using the app, have you tried closing/reopening it?
  • Have you tried deleting and reinstalling?
  • If using web, perhaps try restarting the browser?
  • Assuming it doesn’t include any personal information, could you share a screenshot of what you’re seeing?

If you’d prefer not to share an image of your listing here, and the steps above haven’t been successful, please do reach out to Member Services for more support at support@trustedhousesitters.com

My listing still appears to be live. There is no box for me to actually describe anything. The boxes where I would write or see what is there are gone. They do not exist.

sent to Maeve on message

Just checked the app. After going through the pain in the neck of switching from sitter to homeowner in the app, I discovered the same boxes which don’t allow me to to actually see or get to my words. It is the same as on the web.

Again, maybe I’m jumping to a conclusion here. And as I have a an upcoming sit and an upcoming sitter and a long time till renewal, I’m not sure about joining N____r today but given that I make a living (a poor one but still) with words, I am not happy not having access to words I wrote. I am not happy not being able to present my sit as I would like to present it.

I did write member services. I’ve yet for them to get back to me to definitively tell me that this is a glitch and not the way things are from now on.

That is odd @Marion

Are there any other owners currently having a similar experience editing their listing (on app or web)?

If you do, please share which platform you’re using and the device e.g app and iPhone 16

(Equally good to hear if you aren’t having an issue)

Thanks in advance :folded_hands:

Using app on iphone 16. Only the Home Care section shows a text box that I can edit. Doesn’t show my text on Your home or Local info.

It is fixed. But it is set up differently than it was. Things are moved around again, So it’s a lot of work for any human, since humans think narratively, to tell their story and describe the sit coherently. It is also sectioned off in a way that is a different way from the way in which humans, think write, and read. This is some that could be fixed by whomever is designing this working with the coders and engineers. For now the text appears in the same order I think that it has been in for a few weeks. Anyone trying to change something will still have to dig deep into the listing to find where that thing is. This is true for both boxes you check if you are trying to change an amenenity or a house rule, and for your text.

Yesterday, there were no text boxes at all Today some sections the text box. Yesterday the “about” section was missing I think. Today this exists, but it is the third on the initial drop down. This includes subsections. Two of those subsections have text boxes, I’ll discuss later.

In the Home and Location Section, the first one, there are now a bunch of subsections. Unhelpfully, the the “describe your home” and “describe your location” subsections are both just check-offs with no text boxes (by design not mistake) for description. So the word “describe” is an unfortunate word and frustrating wordchoice that they should change. The homeowner won’t know this, but they’ll have an opportunity to describe their home in a subsection of “about” which comes much later.

There are several subsections in the Home and Location. Only “Home Care” has a text box. You wouldn’t know this just by looking in the sections. You’d have to go through each one. Home Care would probably be the place to put the none-pet responsibilities. What I had done done previously here was put my explanation of my guest policy, since I don’t like the wording on the dropdown, as I want to know about the possibility of guests prior to confirmation not “before the sit.”

Also if you are writing this for the first time, or editing, you’ll have to keep going back to the three main sections in order to find the other sub sections you are looking for. Good luck with that! Also since most homeowners only do this a few times a year, they’ll need to figure it out all over again every time they want to make any change. So you know how you are rated on “accuracy of listing”? Good luck with that!

“Pet Care Responsibilities” is the current sub-section of main section Pet Care where you can find your text box, so if you wanted to describe Fluffy’s personality and you didn’t do this in “about” you could do it here along with the routines.

Finally the third listed main section “about” has “introduction” as a subsection with a text box, the “photo” load for the home, and finally the “listing description” which is would be the main narrative where you write your general description including about why a sitter might want to come there in the first place – your tourist attractions, comfy beds, other stuff not included in any of the check offs like whether you’ll be loaning a car, or just the details you might add to checkoffs.

Because you don’t know at first where things wind up, it would be very frustrating for example if you just wanted to give some details/options about arrival time that don’t fit neatly into the narrative. This issue existed before this latest update.

It really feels like writing the profile has gone from a simple “fun” writing activity, to something that feels like a technical task. So yeah, now I can “edit” my listing but I need to develop a personal cheat seat, based on this post to get me through it and find where things are until the next update.

I cannot edit or post a new listing! I have used THS for over a decade and tons of sits. I know how to use the site! I have a three month sit that I must get listed!!! Again, will not allow me to edit therefore list!

“This booking fee helps us continue to deliver a smooth, consistent experience for every sit, while keeping membership options flexible and accessible”.

How is that working out?

Out of interest I just took a look at my profile.
One of my five star reviews now shows as a reference even though it was a THS sit.
Several five star reviews have now changed to four stars because the pet care category has disappeared.
What a shambles.

Write to customer service or you could try the chat and insist on getting the human. Read my above post so you can find the subsections that are supposed to have text boxes so you at least know what is actually missing versus what is hard to find by design

Hi @Marion

As you mentioned, some things have changed in the way listings are created and updated.

Could you double check the ‘About’ section and see if the text you’re looking for is there?

Mark: per the post I left today, the "about’ now exists. It wasn’t there yesterday or rather the screen where I found it wasn’t yeaterday.

Apologies.

Glad we got to the bottom of it.

Thought that issue was ‘fixed’ two days ago. . .

Apparently not

That’s weird  the overall rating used to be given by the host - it didn’t used to be system generated (an average of the categories )

Is this another change @Mark_B ?

All these problems are really encouraging me to renew :poop:
