Hi all, Member for almost a year_Just Saying Hi!

I’m excited on being a member here for almost a year, I have been apprehensive sitting in strangers homes, my experience on sits has been exclusively with family and close friends. I’m finally ready to get going (as I didn’t want to waste my fees before year ended)
I finally applied for my 1st sit on this platform…I am starting with the low applications that are not too far from me to get my feet wet any recommendations?

Dare to be picky, would be my advice. Not to be «critical» but to ensure a good match.

I think it is important to ensure a good match to evaluate if the homeowner is a good match for you to cooperate with (communication, expectations - do you find them reasonable and enjoyable?), if the home works for you, do your expectations on cleanliness align?

To have some expectations as a petsitter will help you have a good sit and saying no Thank you if it’s not right will help the homeowner have the right sitter.

Welcome @CaringNurseVoyager.
I think it’s natural to feel apprehensive in a stranger’s home, so doing a video call, or meeting them beforehand can help both parties feel more relaxed and prepared for when the sit starts.
If it gets awkward in person, you can always ask about when they got their pet, or ask about how their pet likes to play, etc.
It sounds like you have a good strategy for getting your first sit.
Forum members are also happy to give you feedback on your profile if you would like that. See How to add a listing or profile link to your FORUM profile
Best of luck!

Try to get your first review quickly on a short sit. There you don’t need to be that picky. For one or two nights, you can tolerate almost anything (exception would be aggressive pets).

After that first review, the acceptance rate of your application will be much higher.

Welcome @CaringNurseVoyager
Travel nurse?

Trust your own intuition.
Begin locally, wherever that is.
Set your location to that area, you can change that to whatever area you wish as often as you wish.
Short sits will work to get you started but you can get a longer term one with a great profile.
List any experiences with pets, home care you have as well as any references friends or anyone who can attest to your character, I integrity, and or experience.

If you are limited holiday-wise, then consider doing more shorter stays so you can fit twice as many in, so you get extra reviews under your belt quickly, as it then makes you more likely to be given the sits you really REALLY want.
