Hide Option for Uninteresting Sits

Hi everyone,

I think it would be fantastic if there were a “Hide” option to filter out sits that don’t interest me. I currently have two different searches saved, and I keep receiving notifications about new sits. However, when I click on them, I often have to sift through all the listings I’ve already seen and decided are not a good fit, just to find the new ones. It’s quite frustrating.

I’d love a feature that allows me to hide sits I’ve already seen and dismissed or perhaps a tagging system with labels like “Already Seen” or “Not Seen Yet” to make browsing more efficient.

What do you think? Would this be helpful for you too?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

This has been discussed many times before on the forum and requested but unlikely it will happen any time soon if ever……

I just scroll on by those.

It makes no business sense for THS to add this feature. They want to be able to say a HOs posting has been seen thousands of times.
If they allowed a sitter to hide or mute a posting it wouldn’t allow as many eyes on a listing, even when that sitter would never apply for the uninteresting sit.

Oh, I didn’t know there’s an option in the HO view to see how often their listing was clicked or viewed. But couldn’t they just fake any number shown? Sitters should be equally regarded as paying members with specific wishes.

Business relevance? There we go…

Allowing sitters to hide listings would enhance user experience by reducing frustration from repeatedly seeing irrelevant options. This increases satisfaction, encourages longer memberships, and improves application quality for hosts. Happy users are more likely to renew and recommend the platform, boosting retention and brand loyalty. It also sets TrustedHousesitters apart from competitors by showing a commitment to both sitter and host needs.

I asked ChatGPT about the advantages and to be honest, I think many ideas are actually great.

Here’s how implementing a “hide listing” feature for sitters could benefit TrustedHousesitters and improve the platform overall:

  1. Collecting Feedback Through Random Surveys

Whenever a sitter hides a listing, THS could ask them for the reason. Options could include:

Not relevant to me

Insufficient information

Unclear description

Missing photos

Unappealing location

This feedback would provide valuable insights into why certain listings are ignored, allowing THS to identify common issues and trends.

  1. Feedback Dashboards for Hosts

Hosts could receive anonymized feedback summaries, such as:

“20 sitters found the description unclear.”

“15 sitters mentioned they would like to see more photos.”

This would motivate hosts to improve their listings while maintaining a user-friendly and supportive atmosphere.

  1. Automated Recommendations for Hosts

Based on frequent feedback, THS could offer hosts tailored, automated tips like:

“High-quality photos increase visibility and applications.”

“Providing details about local transportation options can make your listing more appealing.”

This would streamline the process of creating attractive listings and improve the overall quality of the platform.

  1. Improved Matching Algorithms

The reasons why sitters hide certain listings could feed into THS’s matching algorithms, ensuring sitters are shown more relevant options in the future. This would save time, reduce frustration, and enhance user satisfaction.

  1. Educational Content for Hosts

Insights from hidden listings could be used to create educational content for hosts, such as:

Webinars or guides titled “How to Create an Irresistible Listing.”

Checklists that address common issues, like the importance of clear descriptions and high-quality images.

Educated hosts create better listings, which benefits everyone.

  1. Premium Features for Hosts

THS could monetize this data by offering hosts access to advanced feedback analytics. For example:

“Understand why some sitters skipped your listing.”

“Find out what improvements could increase applications.”

This would provide an additional revenue stream while offering hosts deeper insights.

  1. Sitter Satisfaction Surveys

Periodic surveys could gather not just reasons for hiding listings, but also general feedback on what features sitters would like to see. This would ensure THS continuously evolves to meet user needs and stays competitive.

  1. Benchmarking to Improve Listings

THS could use this data to establish benchmarks, like:

“Listings with 5+ photos and clear timeframes get 60% more applications.”

Sharing such insights motivates hosts to improve their listings, leading to a higher quality pool of options for sitters.

Why This Makes Business Sense for THS

By implementing these features, THS would not only improve the user experience for sitters but also ensure higher-quality listings and more satisfied hosts. Better matching and improved listings increase platform engagement, reduce churn, and foster trust among users. Additionally, premium insights could open new monetization opportunities while keeping the core service attractive.

In short, a “hide listing” feature wouldn’t harm the platform’s visibility metrics—it would enhance the overall quality and value for everyone involved.

I don’t know if there is an option for HOs knowing how many times their sits are viewed, I doubt that there is.
I’m saying being able to hide listings in the bigger view wouldn’t make business sense for sits to be hidden.

It actually does make sense.

We are combined members, owners & sitters. Owners can see sitters who have favourited a listing but have to manually count them, there is no automatic tally. Owners can’t see how many times their sit listing has been clicked on. It would be interesting to know that.
