How do I handle this ? Items missing and other issues

Hi

I’ve been a member of trustedhousitters for over a year with no issues .
A petsitter come to look after my cat for a week .
Good communication throughout, lots of videos and updates .
I sent a very detailed welcome guide a few weeks before the sit . Giving instructions on feeding schedule , cleaning instructions ( my house is spotless so just saying to leave the house in the same condition they found it - and to bring their unused food with them when they leave )

Petsitter called over a few days before the sit to collect keys and I did a face to face walk through of everything also

I returned home very late a few days ago so didn’t have the chance to meet the petsitter as they needed to leave in the afternoon
At first glance , the house looked clean , but then I find dirty dishes etc in the sitting room .
Cat hair is all over the sofa . There was none there at the start of the sit . Leftover food in the fridge and freezer .Fridge was a bit grubby too
Some wine glasses , champagne flutes and crockery are missing .

Worst of all they changed position of the cat litter tray without asking me .
I had been clear in my welcome guide and also in person not to move anything around
What’s the best way to handle this . We have been in touch since my return . But I’ve only noticed all the above yesterday . I have messaged them asking about the missing items but have heard nothing back .
They never let me know they broke anything

@MigeyMeatball you’ve done the right thing by asking the sitter about the missing items and giving them a chance to hear their side of the story before jumping to conclusions .

You could also ask about why they moved the litter tray - They may have a valid explanation .

I’d be interested to know why you think moving the litter tray is worse than so many items missing

I know this was addressed to the homeowner and not me, but frankly, I’d be more upset about the litter tray. Cats are creatures of habit. They don’t like having “their” stuff moved. If my litter trays weren’t in their exact locations, things could happen, and reversing course could be difficult, once a cat gets an idea about a thing.

Yes I was upset about the litter tray . I spoke to the sitter who denied moving the litter tray . They also said they had put all crockery back in the cupboard, which was blatantly not true as I found dirty crockery in the sitting room .
They also tried to insinuate that a previous sitter must have broken crockery and not told me . Again not true as I had used them a few days before the sit . I’m just angry that they didn’t bother following the instructions in my welcome guide .
My ceramic hob is full of scratches too . They went at it with a Brillo pad ( which I told them not to do)
They just denied everything . Not sure what to do now

I think you’ve got to be honest in your review. We are in a new ballgame/world with the coming blind reviews, so maybe they’ll be more honesty on both sides and it won’t be a disaster. If it were me I’d start: The good, and then go to: But here’s why I won’t be inviting them back…

You’ve asked the questions @MigeyMeatball and not been given the answers you believe to be true so please write a non emotional, impartial, factual, honest review of the sitter and the pet care listing all the information on there for future HOs.
