How long it takes to know if I’m rejected
It could take months or you could never get a reply at all.
THS-terms states one should answer a fellow member within 72 hours. Many sits are agreed in less, incl videocall. Some longer.
In my experience long waits usually end up in nothing, and good matches act timely.
Hi @Gelen,
Welcome to the forum.
I agree with @Garfield, the vast majority of my sits have been agreed on promptly after application. There are lots of threads on this topic, which you can check to see a variety of opinions and situations but the general feeling is that slow communication could be (not always) a red flag signaling potential communication difficulties during the sit.
I have just had the result of one “experiment“. I had let an application I made 6 weeks ago and didn’t withdraw just out of curiosity. I have just received an answer. The owner says she has not been online ( the application was unread and it went to reviewing mode soon) and asks for a video chat if I was still available. This is really unusual. Most people are ready to choose a sitter when they post their dates.
Six weeks offline ! To me that doesn’t bode well for communication during the sit . Unless perhaps they had an unexpected hospital admission ?
Hopefully they will be more responsive on WhatsApp rather than the THS platform ?
Please keep us updated on your “experiment “ @Newpetlover.
My thoughts exactly @Silversitters. Any other excuse would be rather lame
The experiment is over. I was no longer available but didn’t withdraw just out of curiosity. I wouldn’t have accepted the offer even if I had been available. I guess if there had been a strong reason for not even checking the applications for a listing whose timing they chose, they would have phrased it differently.
I think communication is essential and that includes prompt answers, detailed information, friendly tone, etc. I wouldn’t risk a sit where I don’t know if the owner is going to answer.
And did you agree to a video chat after such a long time?
No. I didn’t. Communication is essential for me. It was just an “experiment”
I’ve just had a reply from a HO about a sit in September, telling me they will make a decision in July I’m trying to work out a polite way to tell them that I will have definitely secured something else by then! As will the other applicants most likely!
I’ve been left with a pet owner ‘reviewing’ for the last 3 months for a sit in June. She said she would be in touch soon That was in January. She has myself and 4 other applicants on review, so I’m not guaranteed that I will be picked. She said she’d like someone to meet the dog a few times in advance. That’s not something I’m willing to do either. I’m about to withdraw as she clearly doesn’t respect other people’s time.
Usually I withdraw after 36 hours. Owners who respond within a few hours are usually organized and the sit goes without too many unwanted surprises.
Please do not think it of as rejection. You have not been chosen for that particular sit. There are so many reasons why it wasn’t for you.
I agree. Frequently long waits come to nothing. Best to assume they are not interested if no reply within a couple of days. The ones that result in a great sit are the ones who reply immediately.
