How much does food play a part of your travels?

In Las Vegas, this dog bakery had treats that looked good enough for humans! Our dog got treats on the spot and a doggie bag, LOL.

Breakfast buffets at hotels can be amazing.

Favorites so far: in China, Las Vegas, Turkey and Singapore. With the latter, if you stay at the iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel, go for the breakfast on the ground floor, because it’s epic. The breakfast on the infinity pool level isn’t anywhere as good. And the breakfast buffet at the Raffles hotel is overhyped. It’s good, but not great.

Hi @Maggie8K yes I completely agree, if you happen to be in Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore definitely go for the breakfast downstairs… it’s fab! :yum:

Are you a travel writer @MrunalMehta? I just saw what you said about Bali in another thread & now this about food. Your copy looks like an enticing article from Condé Nast.

Thwarted. Was at Harrods and they’d sold out of Stinking Bishop. And yesterday, I stumbled into a place that sold just Champagne and cheese, but it turns out only French cheese. Ended up having raclette with truffles, over potatoes, which was delicious. The Champagne they recommended was excellent.

@Maggie8K & @Samox24 - Hereford Hop is an excellent cheese with a great story (two warring brothers a bit like Theakstons Old Peculier tale). Would go beautifully with a dark ale too if you come across it :raised_hands:t3::joy:

Thanks @Cuttlefish will certainly keep a look out for it! :cheese::blush:

Lunch across the street from my sit flat in London — a popular vegan restaurant.

Had Eton mess, followed by smothered fries. Dessert first, with a tumeric and honeycomb latte. Good enough that I’d have them again.

They also serve 3-D printed steaks, which might be a bridge too far for me.

We had fondue AOP Château de Gruyères followed by Tarte Maison à la Crème Double de la Grùyere AOP… delicious! :yum:

Yum. Love fondue. I’m at a sit in Glasgow and had it twice already. And I had Welsh rarebit at Heathrow on the way from the U.S. to Scotland.

@Maggie8K ahhh I love Welsh rarebit :yum::heart:

The funny thing is, I never expected to have it at Fortnum & Mason at Heathrow.

I love delivery services like Deliveroo. It seems magical that you can order all sorts of food and it just shows up. And I love Waitrose whenever I visit the U.K. Found it in Dubai, too.

I live in a very rural area of Scotland and this means any food delivery options tend be be very traditional.

When I travel I love to use Deliveroo, Just Eat or Uber Eats as it gives me so many more choices in other areas. At the age of 42 I was able to try Matcha Mille Crepe cake, and proper milk tea for the first time last year!

@Jenny, I’ve never been to rural Scotland, but I imagine it’s beautiful, given images I’ve seen and heard.

I’ve lived in many parts of the U.S. and can settle pretty much anywhere nowadays, thanks to telecommuting. My criteria include good food and proximity to a major airport, because I don’t want to be limited traveling wise.

That’s the trade-off @Maggie8K - it is so beautiful here. There’s a lovely (if slightly hidden!) creative community and lots of good people doing wonderful things. I’ll aim to try and share some more photos of our countryside as the weather improves!

Your criteria are spot on, I think if I ever had the chance to live a more nomadic life, I’d go for something similar! Where was your favourite place to live, and what kind of food did you enjoy there?

Would love to see photos of your world, @Jenny.

I’m increasingly torn by where to live, because I like different areas for combos of different reasons. My greedy ideal would be some kind of mashup.

Telecommuting makes it a tougher choice, because one parameter has been removed. It used to be that my criteria included a concentration of employment choices when I had to work onsite, but now I don’t need to consider that except for maybe potential resale of real estate having proximity to jobs for prospective buyers.
