How to find Last minute Sits

Greetings,

Where is the best place to find last minute sits. Is it here in the forum? Someone had mentioned a group?

Hello @ab-777 . There is a thread here in the forum where hosts can post last minute sits, but only if they are forum members and they choose to do so. There is another thread here where someone responded: there isn’t a specific filter, but if you want to see all last minute sits, set your date filter to start from today and finish 7 days later - they should all show. Last Minute Sits are only shown 7 days before starting and have the tag applied also.

@ab-777 The forum allows for listings that are within 10 days from the start date.

You can also do a search at any time, based on start date. There’s no need to add an end date, unless you have a specific time period that’s relevant for you.

I’ve set a search for Anywhere, but you can use whatever location interests you.

On the app

Next click on the set of lines on the right side. If they don’t display, just scroll down a little and they will show. Click on Start date.

Scroll down and click on Apply filters. Listings will show as of the next date (tomorrow).

On the website

Click on the Sort by tab & the listings will shown by soonest date.

Do you want to look for anywhere, or specially somewhere? I make a search for a location (or not), and choose “sort by” and “start date”, and there I see the ones starting soonest.

And do not choose the “Recommended” button. Those have often been listed for a long time, discerning sitters may have seen reasons not to apply.

Oooh now I have to check out the “recommended” didn’t know about that, thanks for the warning

Don’t discount Recommended sits as often they look really nice, have good reviews but have just got lost in the many listings that come in daily. Owners don’t realise their listing has become invisible and don’t know they can remove their dates then re-post them.

The forum works, but last minute sits show up fastest in the dedicated Facebook and WhatsApp groups for sitters and homeowners. Also keep alerts on in the app and check new listings several times a day, many owners post and confirm within hours when it’s urgent.

“Recommended” is the sits no-one wants. Yes, it can be because they have been buried down the list, yet they are great sits. Or, often, they are not very desirable to begin with.

“Recommended” is another way that THS is junk: the aim is that sitters look at the sits that are least wanted, so that they make the HOs feel like it is a great service. That it is the default makes this even clearer.

It is important to state that “recommended” sits are not by default bad. But sitters do find them other ways: searching for time, location, etc. In order to make the situation better, THS needs to bring better search tools. For example “small villages”. This pops up the (often) “recommended (in bad way)” sits, and I for sure would love to hop in small villages. Now I need to browse 40 sits in the area, and have no way of sorting them with “no suburbs”. And someone else wants suburbs, so add that too!

This!

I had sits like that. Once it was outside of village outside Nottingham. Three pubs in the village but no store. A few times per day there was a bus outside the house to get to Nottingham. But a cosy cottage and a lovely dog to walk footpaths through the fields. I had a great week there.

Or the sit for a gorgeous sheepdog in a village in the Cotswolds, also only a pub but no store. Or the sit in a small French wine village. Without public transport.
