I’m a sitter, but If I were a HO, I would hide a box of festive treats (cookies, wine, chocolates etc) in the house, and then send a message on Christmas Day directing the sitters to that hiding place, and for them to enjoy the surprise!
A HO did that for my family and I several years ago and it was wonderful!
(Note: of course, not everybody celebrates Christmas, but for those that do…)
Last year, we spent seven weeks over Christmas and New Year’s Eve caring for two dogs, and it turned out to be the best Christmas we’d had in years. Our hosts were incredibly generous, leaving us an abundance of Christmas treats. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome, with freshly pre-baked items like Yorkshire pudding, a homemade dessert in the fridge, alcohol, and even tickets to a Christmas concert. They had subtly asked beforehand about the kind of music we like since they are very musical themselves. It was truly an amazing experience, and we’ve stayed in touch ever since, forming a close friendship.
That’s really lovely and something that I would love to offer were I an owner on here. As a sitter I’ve had some generous hosts, but have also spent some Christmas sits without even a bottle of wine or chocolates!
