Inappropriate message

A potential sitter sent me a weird, inappropriate message in my Inbox. He had applied a few weeks ago, and I responded back with some questions and also to let him know that I hadn’t made my decision yet. From the get-go, even his bio seemed sketchy, but I couldn’t put my finger on why exactly. Today when he made the inappropriate comment I just replied back that I had accepted another sitter, and declined his sit. It wasn’t vulgar, but it was more appropriate for a dating site, not a pet sitting site. Has anyone else ever experienced this issue?

Edited.

Report him to membership services.

@pbjb I wonder if he is a Forum member and will read this? Uncomfortable…:flushed:

Definitely report him. One of the HOs on here has a similar issue with an accepted sitter who’s started messaging her inappropriately once he was at her home looking after her pets so yes, it does happen occasionally it seems. Super important to flag his behaviour @pbjb

Could it have been a language/cultural misunderstanding?

We would have to know what the comment was to be able to make a judgement on it ourselves.

It could be lost in translation / a bad attempt at humour / a predictive text error

when we were Airbnb hosts I once received a message from a guy ending with " Is it possible for you to massage me"

He meant ‘message’.

Well, I hope he did! At forty quid a night, I hope he wasn’t expecting a freebie massage thrown in aswell!

Hi @pbjb I have direct messaged you …

Whether it was a misunderstanding or creepiness or something else, this type of issue is best addressed by membership services, because they can get specifics, give offenders guidance or sanctions, or monitor them. Or kick them off.

If they’re actually creepy, you want intervention sooner than later not only for you, but because they could be doing the same to other folks on THS.

I think he has done just a couple of sits, and he is local. I worry that if I report him, he will know it was from me. That is my dilemma.

You can raise that with membership services as well. For all you know, he’s been reported by other folks, too.

When I was a restaurant server in my 20s, a man (who seemed…unsophisticated) ordered the “quickie of the day.” (Quiche.) I said that’ll cost him more than $8.95 (knowing that my quip would fly over their heads).

I was briefly an Airbnb host, and stopped for this very reason. There are men who see every site as a dating site. Long story short, this man sent me creepy, come on messages after his ‘stay’ in my home.

Report it, please!

It is one of the things that would be solved with a blocking function.
