Insurance question: Has anyone successfully claimed hotel nights as a result of a cancelled sit?

Exactly, if you have to fly a long distance at high costs you will maybe decide to stay where you are - and then THS’s insurance does not need to pay. They do everything NOT to pay. Like all companies and all insurances. Their purpose is to make money, not to be kind to people.

How long did it take you to get reimbursed?

Did you get the full $150 or just the portion that your room cost?

Did THS take a cut out of your reimbursement?

Did THS charge you for the bank wire transfer?

How sticky was the ‘providing proof’ since some conversations with HOs are verbal conversations?

If I am remembering correctly it took about a month to six weeks after we checked out of the inn and submitted the receipts. They paid the whole authorized amount minus the $150 deductible. Our room was actually more per night than insurance allows so we did pay some out of pocket, but the insurance covered most of it because it was not a long sit. Because the sit was remote, this was the only lodging within the required 20 miles so it cost more per night. It was a beautiful place with great breakfast and amenities so we did not mind. THS did not charge for the transfer at all. We did not have any trouble proving the situation because we had screenshots of the texts about the frozen pipes and the homeowner saying we could not come. As long as a member meets all the requirements and submits the correct documents the process works, even if it is not a fast process! We also had great contact with a representative by email and all our questions were quickly answered throughout the whole process. Fortunately they also accepted photos of the documents, as we were still traveling and had no other way to provide them. Hopefully I didn’t miss any answers you were looking for.

Hello @NutmegEcho we’ve just been through this process last month so if useful here’s our experience. Sit cancelled 3 days before start, took screenshots of cancellation message from host. Checked availability of sits nearby - zero. Took a screenshot of that. Found accomm within 20 miles of sit location. Screenshot of map. Booked & paid and send THS receipt with all the screenshots. 6 nights was $900. THS took deductible of $150 and paid us rest into a UK account (they gave us a choice of where to pay it). I think the transfer probably costs about £10 on conversion rates but it is what it is. Whole process was done & dusted in under 14 days. Support were very good. Definitely need as much evidence on messaging as possible. #hopethathelps

I successfully received reimbursement for three nights from a canceled sit when I could not find another sit for those dates. However, it took almost five months to receive the reimbursement. TH is not the organization that handles these claims; it is an insurance carrier. TH was very helpful and contacted the carrier several times to inquire about my reimbursement.

And then they deduct $150 for all that processing!

No thank you, I would never pay for the higher membership tiers.
