You must follow up with THS. If a THS admin & moderator sees this thread please note from other members perspectives it’s very disappointing to hear you haven’t actioned such a blatant breach of rules I.e. third parties in home & cameras. The HO has admitted in her review of the sitter that she did these things. Come on THS - don’t leave another sitter in this position. Also this sitter should have that HOs review removed as some sort of recompense.
I think that’s a good idea.
But here’s the thing …if that HO gets booted or (more likely) doesnt renew her membership because she is going to have difficulty getting future sitters, members will only be able to see the HO review of the sitter and the sitter’s response to that review. So I would be wary of encouraging this.
Perhaps it’s better to wait a bit before posting your response.
I think better to post the response sooner rather than later if this sitter is actively applying for sits. Knowledgeable members will already know how to cross reference for both sides of the story.
You must go back to member services and use the words member dispute
The hosts reply where she admits third party is there and and internal camera is part of your “evidence “
Here is a thread about how to raise a Member Dispute
https://forum.trustedhousesitters.com/t/member-dispute-process
Don’t call it complaint / investigation or anything else - put Member Dispute in the title of the e-mail.
I suggest Focus on these Main breaches
Third Party
Internal camera .
The constant need for updates is annoying but not a breach of the terms - so no need to include this in your dispute .
I mean waiting for more input from forum members and to hear from THS actions regarding HO.
I would be (pleasantly) surprised if the HO were removed. It is her first listing so I would expect her to plead ignorance ( yes, despite what she wrote) and get cautioned. But I will eat @Colin 's hat if I am proven wrong.
Me again!
I just wanted to let you know I posted my reply and am ready to put this behind me. I am currently on a sit until next week and the home owners, the dog and the house are a dream. My next one starts in August, then I have another one in August, then one in September and a 2-month-long one in October & November. I hope none of them fall through because of this lady and her review. I think the HOs for the September, October & November ones are also new to the platform so I really hope they go well.
I honestly do not know how to thank you all for your time, attention, and infinite help. I am again so happy to have found this forum.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend ![]()
I did! It was the first thing I said in my call!
I agree, I am a bit anxious and was eager to put this behind me but I also felt comfortable with the redaction you made of the review, so I edited it a bit and decided to post it as I didn’t want anyone to see that review in my profile and not be able to see my response. If they’re interested enough, I’m sure they’ll also go into her profile to read my review. Thanks again!
Also, I have followed-up with THS support but so far nothing.
Great to see how much support you got here! And great that you can put this behind you.
THS support does not really support, in my experience anyway. But from the sound of it, I’m confident that most people who read this woman’s review of you, will realise that it says more about her than about you. (If they don’t, you don’t want to pet sit for them anyway!)
So happy for you with your good sit and the sits coming up!
A little “late to the party”, but would just say that your review (and response) is really good and descriptive IMO. I dont’ think it will do you harm as you come across as really sensible, and you have other sits lined up to bury it in.
Thank you for putting in the effort to the communty with your review. The reviews are the foundation of trust and it is a great service also to all the great hosts - so sitters can chose them over the bad ones.
Best of luck going forward!
you might not be able to see if she edited the listing but I believe member services can, and they can also see when it was edited.
Oh my Lord, we could be twins! Also a fairly new sitter, on the first sit I confirmed, with a micromanaging HO who thinks I should be able to smell what she wants me to do!
Isn’t it crappy? I hope you’re done with the awful thing now. I have 7 more weeks ahead of me, but I’m looking at options to get out. Also camera issues, no welcome guide, an ‘employer’ attitude. She said directly to me that HOs shouldn’t have to pay to use the platform because they have to pay our bills. ![]()
Oh my god! 7 weeks?! Get in touch with support like I did to request help and have them clearly advise on what to do since you can’t abandon the sit without first notifying the HO and giving them some time to arrange pet care. I wouldn’t have been able to make it such a long time, I honestly could not wait to leave and never see that woman again.
I also meant to write here that I just finished the sit I had after that one and it was wonderful. I got a 5-star review – the owners were amazing and said it was a shame I’m not available in November to come back (I have a 2-month-long sit then and it’s the owner’s first time using the platform. She seems chill, I really hope she is!)
Trust me, it’ll get better. We just have to learn to also be picky with who we choose to sit for.
Best of luck!
(edited by Forum team to remove review as per Community Guidelines)
Go you! Yes, it’s pity we had to learn by a trial of fire to be pickier!
True this. @oridd99 I think you’re fine thanks to the HO insulating you by confirming her major breaches of THS T&Cs (3rd parties and camera). No attentive applicant to future sits will ignore those details.
@Jenny Please excuse me if I missed a post in this long thread that would answer my question, but…
Just wondering if this listing – with a third party living there – is still live?
It is, although I actually kept in touch with the flatmate who told me she kicked him out --she did treat him even worse than me – because he was gonna pay rent (2nd month’s rent) a day late, and I checked the post now and it says “the sitter will sleep in a different room” (which is not posted in the listing) and doesn’t mention “I have a spare room and it will be occupied” like it did last time I checked. The post seems to have a date open in September and says “reviewing”. I don’t know why it’s still active, but THS support said they’d give her a warning “reminding her of the terms” and I don’t think my report only will be enough to take it down or ban her from the platform.
