@Crosswords_and_puzzles
I also have done that in the past . However recently member services sent me an e-Mail telling me to stop sending the non compliant listings to as there are too many for them to deal with !
It would be better if THS trained their staff who approve the listings about the THS terms of service, ( no third parties, no pets with a history of aggression , banned breeds etc ) to stop these before they get listed .
Trusted Housesitters really needs to commit resources to deal with this, as it is a 100% preventable problem!
(I’m into percentages today. LOL!)
If their focus is soley on profits and revenue-generating efforts – or brand extensions, such as Trailblazers – and they allow the fundamental quality of the product to deteriorate, Trusted Housesitters is shooting itself in the foot.
Whaaat
I hope you will continue – maybe it will make them aware that they need to figure out how to deal with them better!
“Please stop telling us where we slipped up because we don’t have time to fix it” is just not on!
I have seen so many recent listings with pets coming up in “no pets” searches that I’ve given up referring them to MS. If THS don’t care about accurate listings, why should I?
I just now saw a very desirable listing in Spain that mentions at the end that the sitter needs to mow and weed according to instruction.
Sounds like no big deal, since it’s a 2.5 months sit in a beautiful home, but this is a +5000sqm garden oasis. For Americans, that’s about 1.3 acres. And they have lots of pots and other stuff on the grass where you can’t just mow.
That size planted garden is at least a part time job and they need a gardener.
5 indoor kittens and one outdoor cat. And those kittens need to be fed 4 times a day, which seems a lot, but that wouldn’t bother me so much. The mother is being let in twice a day, but kittens can’t be let out. Doing weeding and stuff for hours every day is not my idea of pet sitting
I did report them and I was told that taking care of such a big garden is within their guidelines and acceptable.
I’ll keep that in mind, if my next house has a huge garden and I need the weeds pulled. I’ll go to a nice hotel for the weekend and offer it to a sitter to get the yardwork done… Just kidding
Thanks for the heads up about this. I know that basic plant watering is considered acceptable, but after looking at the listing, this seems to be quite a bit more work.
I’ll ask the team if they can review this one again and explain about the size of the garden.
I recently came across a sit in Newbury listed as an “English Manor House.” Sounds lovely – but after speaking directly with the homeowners, it turns out it’s actually a ground-floor apartment within a larger manor house. So clearly, it’s not a standalone house, even though it’s listed as such.
I always filter for houses, and not for fun. Like many others, I have specific reasons for doing so – including work needs, privacy, and sensitivity to noise. If a listing is inaccurately marked as a house, it wastes time and creates false expectations for both sitters and owners.
I reported this listing to TrustedHousesitters, but nothing has been done and the listing remains unchanged. Why is that? When homeowners themselves confirm the property is not a house, shouldn’t that be enough to prompt a correction?
It’s frustrating when members mislabel properties just to get more attention. It affects trust and the overall quality of the platform – especially for those of us who rely on accurate filters.
I saw that listing too @Fatamorgana but realised it was only an apartment they occupied in the Manor House by reading the listing so gave it a miss. Definitely false advertising with that heading.
It’s only showing up if you filter by apartment, not if you filter by house. It also has this in it’s first sentence - “… in our modern yet cozy manor apartment in Newbury” and this in the the first 2 sentences of the Home section - “We live in a manor house that was converted into multiple apartments. Our ground floor apartment …”
Thanks for that! I just checked it and yes, it’s updated! But not sure if THS made them do it. I messaged them and asked politely to make it more clear. Maybe they wanted to be fair.
Ooooohhh, lucky sitters:
“The sitter will stay in the living room with an inflatable air mattress, office and master bedroom not accessible”
By the way, this is for a 2.5 month sit. What are hosts thinking?
