Listings slipping through the Net

LizBCN I agree, When I contactedf TH due to a banned XL Bully being advertised I hadf the re[ly it was all fine as it had an exemption certificate. It was only when I posted on tghe forums that anything was done. I woul;d have hated to have thought if a pet sitter had beern attacked by this dog, as an unfamiliar person or if taken out and had attacked somebody. after all when tghey attack and kill it is always the first time etyc. etc. JUst a very unpredictable breed that has been responsible for m,any deaths and attacks in the UK. But there are lots slipping through the net, cameras, other perople in house, grown up children acalling in. And then those that just want doggie daycare and not overnoight etc. And I did once look after an aggressive dog that absolutely terrified me at times. I was the intruder it wanted out of the house. I really do not thnk any listings are actually vetted at all.

I saw one recently that the sitter would be sleeping on an airbed in the living room and the two bedrooms in the flat would be locked.

Did they have any prior reviews??

I’ve seen 18 of these in the last 36 hours alone. Yes I am counting.

I’ve seen this sit! Unreal!

Why is there not simply a REPORT button on the listing, as virtually every other type of platform has provided?

Because they would be inundated! It has been requested by members for many years but it falls on deaf ears.

I asked this question some two years ago and was told to stop making comments on this Forum about the lack of monitoring via a private message from one of the moderators at that time. THS clearly don’t wish to address this problem for whatever reason. I am not aware they have ever even admitted an issue despite many posts to the contrary, hence the title I gave this thread when I started it - all they would ever say was one or two “slipped through the net”. It is now obvious that there is no net.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to pop on and confirm that the team have passed over the suggestion for a report button on quite a few occasions now, we completely understand why that would be helpful, and we’ll continue to bring it up wherever we can.

@LizBCN - I’m really sorry that you’ve been told in the past not to make comments on a particular topic, as the only time we’d moderate someone’s activity is if they were actively breaking the Community Guidelines. Having an opinion on Trusted Housesitters’ processes isn’t breaking any guidelines. Negative feedback is just as valuable as positive feedback, if not more, as it gives us the opportunity to pass over suggestions about how things might be improved.

While it’s not the exact solution that was requested, the THS team did train Frankie to have a function that allows members to report listings, which are then passed over to the team.

Well don’t worry - it’s a while ago long before your time on the Forum. It does occur to me though that if the idea of a report button isn’t going anywhere perhaps we should try a different approach. I was told that these “slipping through the nets” were the result of edits by owners as all new listings were checked (something that appears now not to have been the case). However given the apparent huge financial investment in the platform surely it should be possible that all new listings are properly checked and to develop software that reports when a listing is editted by a home owner so that someone at THS can check it still complies? I do feel that this issue compromises the fundamentals upon which I understood THS to be based and if new owners/sitters simply accept cameras, third parties, day sits etc then before long THS will have lost some of its important features and safeguards.

I hear you @LizBCN - I’ll pop this over to the team and see if they come back with anything.

I got a similar rap on the knuckles a few years ago when I commented that if there was a THS review process (which I doubt), the reviewers needed more training. It was like the mods thought I was 5 years old and were threatening me with the naughty stool!

Exactly the same Lassie. I said “it appeared” that there was no robust system of checking in place. I was very careful not to say there wasn’t a process as obviously I couldn’t verify that although the number of “slippings through the net” suggested otherwise and I was told to stop posting comments that weren’t true. I wonder if we hit on a nerve there?

I reckon you did @LizBCN and the issue hasn’t improved which is very disappointing.
