@MaggieUU I think my detailed response today does constitute our side of the dispute. Not sure there’s much else I can do at this point until THS has ‘heard’ both sides and responded to us…
And Yes- only 10 days since the sit would have started…
Am feeling for you @Lokstar. We know just how dedicated and experienced you are and would not have taken the action you did unless it was truly necessary. We’re right behind you. I know of another couple with well over 100 sits who faced exactly what you are facing. The owners did not give an honest account yet it was the sitters who got reprimanded and put on notice. Their years of experience and loyalty to THS meant nothing to THS. Sending you hugs.

@HelloOutThere Yes! Got it-I did mention the number of reviews in our response today. But your mention of sending a screenshot reminded me I’ve been meaning to screenshot them all for safekeeping- we’ve worked so hard for those reviews!

Although I am not entirely surprised that it has turned out this way .
I urge you raise a member dispute against this owner immediately .
Your defence of the dispute raised against you will not doubt exonerate you and your decision not to start the sit . However, even if this is the outcome , THS still will not take any action against this owner.
The only way to get THS to investigate/ suspend and take action against this dishonest host is to raise a dispute.
Really sorry that even though it’s the owner who broke the T&Cs it is you that is suspended.
Your dispute should focus on all the ways that the owner mislead you and any of the THS terms that they broke (e.g. inaccurate listing/ responsibilities not disclosed / third parties / pet behaviour not disclosed / unliveable conditions etc )
It should also state how you sought advice and support of member services at the time who backed your decision not to start the sit ( screenshots of messages as evidence )
Also be sure to state clearly that you did not abandon any pets since you left before the owner had departed for their trip.
Please screenshot the listing immediately as your evidence ( before owner makes changes to it )
@Silversitters thank you for your support and advice. You obviously understand the member dispute process better than I do. Its late for me now so I will look into taking further action tomorrow. By then hopefully THS will also have responded to our defence today. Fortunately my husband did make screenshots of the listing straight after we left because now we have no access to our account while it remains suspended. I will update as things progress. ![]()
Ditto! Defending yourself is one thing, raising your own dispute is quite another.
Good luck with it (and do please come back one day and tell us what actually happened to make you walk away!).
This sounds like a bureaucratic mess! I hope things work out and it gets sorted. I have a feeling it will because in my experience when there is some kind of trail, it’s usually found and you did speak to people even if you didn’t raise it to the level of a dispute.

As others have said, an abusive situation which had to be brought to the attention of THS.
These Home Owners have abused your trust and imposed on your good natures.
They clearly had MULTIPLE opportunities to disclose the reality of their dogs needs and chose not to.
They SHOULD have been honest all along - and chose not to.
Unfair to you and irresponsible about their own dogs.
NOT acceptable.
Had they been honest from the start and had you CHOSEN to accept a sit under these conditions, that would have been fine.
They clearly KNOW no one would accept 25 days of this if they were honest so they chose to hide the truth that their dogs need constant medical care.
Informing the hosts that having had several days with the dogs it was clear that their needs were far beyond any reasonable expectations and that you were very disappointed they were not honest with you over the last couple of months was the right way forward.
You have no obligation to be MORE responsible than these owners are being for these dogs!
This turn of events would be devastating for anyone, but it must feel especially unfair and hurtful for such a loyal member like yourselves. I can’t help but think that perhaps THS is just following a procedure they established when a dispute is filed. Did you get any explanatory message re your account being blocked? I remember reading about a host having their account shut down after a sitter filed a dispute. Hopefully, everything will get sorted out in your favor in a day or two. Fingers crossed.
@messenger Thank you for your supportive message. Yes you are right- they are just following procedure. The email from THS was not unfriendly or threatening. It was quite neutral- saying they’ve received the complaint and have suspended our account while they investigate. They listed the comments from the host (some of which tbh are ridiculous!) and asked us to respond on each point raised. They said they understand there are always 2 sides to every story and they want to hear ours. So yes that sounds like a pretty standard process.
We have responded in detail and hopefully our- more rational- reply puts things in perspective.

@Lokstar I am feeling confident that this will be resolved in your favour .
However as you have already experienced don’t expect THS to join up the dots and link all the information from last week’s dealings to this case . You have to provide them with all the information .
I recall last week you said that member services asked if you wanted to raise a dispute . At the time this sounded to me like they actually wanted you to do that in this case . I say this because so many forum members say that they have not even be told of the option to raise a dispute and yet in your case THS were the ones suggesting it . This leads me to believe they think that you a strong case against this member .
THS can’t take action against this member unless someone raises an official dispute, and supplies the evidence for them to investigate.
I know that you opted not to raise a dispute as you wished to avoid additional stress which I totally understand and respect . However as it hasn’t panned out that way - please consider raising a dispute - sticking to the facts of the T&Cs that were broken .
