Thanks, Louise. My tent is my Hiking tent which I’m using on my 10 day hike in the arctic Circle trek in Greenland next week. She has a ground floor unit and the tent is set up on her patio, which is Waldorff from the street. Nobody can see me so I am safe and the gate is locked so that is fine. Don’t worry, I am safe

Yes, He came back. She’s also very, very rude to me on WhatsApp. And I asked her not to speak to me in that manner and advised her that I’ve spoken to THS. I have recorded the cats. And I’d love to put the recording on here because it is a complete joke.

She seems to think that they’re quiet with her, but when I got here, the sitter who was a paid sitter who sat in between the one who left abruptly and myself told me they just continuously meow. He even had some Earplugs for me.

I’m leaving the country on Friday when the homeowner gets back, I’ve got a ton of work to do until then, and I’m just documenting everything taking videos etc.
The crazy thing is, I’ve got a feeling she’s going to give me a bad review because I keep complaining! She’s treating me like paid help. I actually asked her not to speak to me that way in one of our text messages. This is all going back to THS because I’ve got a feeling I’m going to get a bad review out of all of this, The woman is a complete nut job
I’m not sure if I wrote this before, but not only do I have to have the cats locked up inside but I’m not supposed to have the windows open more than a couple of inches. It’s a stuffy one bedroom apartment. I’m used to lovely 345 bedroom houses with a lovely dog, I’ve got, 17 five star reviews.
This really is the Sit from h%ll.

I would be tempted to open the windows even if you are not ‘supposed to’ and risk the scratched screens. You are anticipating a bad review anyways, correct? And I believe Seattle is experiencing a heat wave currently so you have the right to be more comfortable

Yep. But I spoken at length with THS and taken videos so the chances of a bad review being removed is quite high. Unfortunately if I have a bad review removed hers will probably be removed as well and that will stop me from warning future sitters.

Omg this sounds awful. Absolutely awful!! (relentless meowing in a confined space - there’re probably international laws protecting terrorists from being treated that way) I get that we can’t just abandon animals, of course. But it sounds to me that the HO should be suspended from the site, not the sitters.
I must admit I’m not impressed with THS response to this. It sounds like it will happen again the next time this woman goes away. Its not a suitable friendly house-sit for the site.
Also, on profiles, I can’t see where sitters have responded to their reviews, so if they get a poor one how can they defend themselves? For the site to work it needs to be more transparent.

That is terrible that they are rude to you on WhatsApp. No excuse for that you really ought to let Trustedhousesitters know so they don’t penalize you and you have back up for their review if it is negative.
Yeah, I’ve got everything documented. But it is what it is and I only have a few more days. She’s definitely used to paid housesitters, whether I don’t really complain because they’re getting paid. I actually told her off for speaking to me in such a way and told her I didn’t appreciate it and reminded her that I’d already been in touch with TrustedHousesitters three times. I immediately got an apology back!

I agree I think it’s still very much in favour of the owner. The bottom line is is that we’re doing them a huge favour so their pet doesn’t have to go into a kennel. Yes we are getting free rent but we’re also not getting paid for this. Often we need to fly or travel to a destination.

Oh this is a dreadful sit @Soultreader.
Sounds as if some sort of animal welfare (in the uk, I’d suggest the RSPCA) should be made aware of outdoor cats being kept in such a confined space.
@Soultreader no need to wait until the sit has ended to raise a member dispute .

In addition to your review, you can warn future sitter by using the THS groups on other social media. The Faceb00k and R.ed.dit groups are active.

Also, this might sound mad but if you find some crashing waves or Bali tropical sounds I’d put that on a loop in the background, it might be sound familiar to the cats and reassure them.

Don’t worry. Write an honest review for her as politely as you can. Not sure if we can still respond to reviews, as I have never used that feature since they changed the way they do reviews. Can someone let us know? Discerning HOs will take into account all your reviews, and how you respond to bad reviews.
