Hi everyone, I’m a Swiss animal lover who recently joined. I can work remotely for my Swiss employer and will look after the cutest dog in Melbourne/OZ in November and then over the holidays again. Can’t wait!! And YES: I do realize how LUCKY I am!! First sit and directly found a dream match in Australia!!!
Now some questions have arisen while looking for suitable places in OZ:
can I search for a specific animal? I know my way around DONKEYS after having cared for them during 6 months on a Greek island and ADORE them but found only HORSES to cross at the search function….
how about searching for specific breads of dog like MIX, rescue dog e.g…… is that possible?
don’t understand the date thing yet in the search. It says
DATE
from
to
but I‘d only like to put in my start date but it won’t allow it….
I take it that the FROM TO looks for these specific dates but that‘s not helpful. I‘d like to put in earliest date on which a search can be made within this time frame is…. (put in earliest possible date) - is that possible??
You’ve clearly already found the pet selection icons in the search function, and that’s the most you can do. If looking to care for donkeys, then use the ‘horse’ option.
You cannot select specific breeds of dog.
In the date search, enter the widest time frame in which you’re interested in doing sits, then click on ‘sort by’ and select ‘start date’, which will then show sits which start closest to your first date.
Maybe you have already checked, but working at home in another continent than your employer could have implications for your health and insurance coverance.
In any - but perhaps specially longer sits - be sure to check out how you are covered. Your private travel insurance - if you have one - may have limitations to holiday only and there could also be a time limit per travel, for instance. Some employers insurances often have similar limitations. Hopefully nothing will happen and usually nothing does, however there are examples of people getting injured or ill abroad that get in serious trouble and even get problems getting home because they are not «let out» before they pay. So just a friendly nudge. Often it is quite easy to be safe rather than sorry.
Welcome @SwissChica,
Congratulations on your November dog sit in Melbourne .
Much as you love donkeys and have experience, I think you’ll have great difficulty finding sits in Australia with donkeys, especially if you have any restrictions on the locations you wish to be in. Donkeys are not exactly a popular pet for Aussies, especially if just using THS! Join Aussie Housesitters as well as there are far more listings on that than THS. Keep searching and fingers crossed, you find one.
