Yes, I am running that version too.
However, as I delve deeper, it is just a huge inconsistent mess!
Listings have the older icons. Some other sitter reviews have categories, some do not. When looking at my own profile, new icons appear.
Really apologize for raising anyone’s hopes that there had been an improvement.
Thanks for that. I don’t know about you but I’m confused. ![]()
It is puzzling how the icon change wouldn’t be across all sections.
Are you familiar with The Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California? It reminds me of that. Stairways leading to ceilings, doorways opening to walls …
Oooh! Should there be a pet category for “magical livestock”? Who’d like to sit with a dragon? ![]()
No change on the website icons. Just jumped through the 2FA hoops (
) again to look.
(And on a tangent, amused to see the first line that popped up was “sits picked for you” and those were a couple within a few hours’ drive here in Canada, and then one in Indonesia! Great picking!
)
Same here, in the app I see old icons when I am checking listings but the new ugly ones are still there on our sitter profile.
The level of inconsistency is just baffling.
Yeah, this is a really odd “improvement”. I’ve worked in UX and this is odd to say the least. Alongside other “improvements” like the beta map feature.
This typically happens when PMs want to justify why they are taking their salary…
Wow, these new icons look the same until you look VERY CLOSELY. What a waste of money to change something that worked so well, and make it almost useless. Please change it back to have a dog looking like a dog, and a cat looking like a cat. Rather than these day-care childish designs.
…oh wait, the dog icon is almost identical to the livestock icon. Sadly, another THS failure. PLEASE revert back to what already worked.
We now have a description after the pet icons so we know it is a cat or dog etc.
I found a listing just then with the icon a ‘paw’ and wording ‘5 or more pets’. Doesn’t help as still had to click on the listing to see what the pets are - 1 dog, 3 cats and chickens. Another one had ‘10 or more pets’ which included fish. I didn’t realise chickens and fish had paws
. Why does THS have difficulty reverting back to the original animal symbols that did not need a label?? We would think a little more highly of them in the debacle that is going on at present.
I also noticed it now states the number of days of the sit straight after the dates which I found distracting. It would be better placed under the dates.
@temba There also doesn’t seem to be an icon for pigs. I saw two listings with pigs (not that I’m looking to sit pigs) and they used the sheep icon. Surely they could distinguish between them? ![]()
As for the days after the date range, I could do without that altogether. It just clutters up the data. Surely sitters can figure out how many days the sit would be for?
I wish they would stop trying to fix things that aren’t broken. ![]()
@Snowbird I don’t think we need the number of days either. We can work that out ourselves! The listing looks crowded now with more added to it as we scan to decide whether to open it or not. Pity about the pigs!
Maybe they can just show a strip of bacon. It would fit right in with the ridiculous looking so called cat and cartoon dog.
Looks like these changes are only on the website as not showing on my app. Is this the same for you @Snowbird?
Yes I have seen those as well. It can’t seem to cope with more than two categories of pet at a time.
For instance you can have 8 dogs and 8 cats and they will show correctly, add a chicken or a fish and it shows a paw and more than 16 pets. An extreme example perhaps but what was wrong with it before?
Some hosts don’t even pick any pet icons so you think they have none until you read the listing.
If further search filters are brought in it will blow it’s mind!
OK I really need to get off the computer for the night. I’m tired, so at a first glance I read this, following from “bacon”, as “delicious looking” cat and dog. Whaat…? …Oh… ![]()
@temba There’s so much inconsistency, even with various views on the app, that I’m having difficulty answering what should be a simple question.
On the website, I see the new icons. I also now see the micro photo of the host superimposed on the first thumbnail photo. The host’s photo is also in the listing, although so small it’s really useless. On the app, if I’m doing a search then I see the old icons. There the host’s photo is at the bottom corner of the first photo.
However, when I read a saved search email on my phone (not a notification), then the host’s photo is overlaid on the first photo, along with the favourite option, cluttering up a small-device photo. When I open that listing, the host’s photo isn’t shown in the listing at all.
We’ve seen so many times how the website and app are inconsistent and often never get standardized. I don’t hold out much hope that there will be a useful fix on this mess either.
Take, for example, the reviews and date range and/or number of days. They reversed the move from number of days and reverted to the date range on the website. Progress. However, on the app they still show number of days and the last month of the sit. A forum member provided an excellent example of a 3-month winter sit where their month ended in spring and did not reflect the type of sit they managed. Did THS listen? No. The app still shows end month of sit and number of days.
Also take for example, the inconsistency of reviews and references. On the website, my count truly is for reviews, as it says, and references are clearly separated. On the app, I have a far higher count for reviews as I have more references than reviews but the count includes both. Certainly in my favour, but misleading for hosts. They even go as far as explaining the How reviews work, showing the distinction, only to then merge them together chronologically all under the heading of reviews. Duh.
Sorry to blend multiple points into one post but the common thread is inconsistencies between website and app. Incompetence at its finest, I’d say.
Thanks @Snowbird for illustrating the new inconsistencies so clearly with what you are seeing in relation to the host’s photo on the website, app and saved search email.
So many inconsistencies we have seen and continue to see between the website and app yet little is done about it. One has to question the competence and expertise of those responsible. I don’t see these inconsistencies in other house/pet sitting sites. In fact, they operate smoothly and easily; something we were promised by THS.
Thank you for bringing some amusement to this problem.
Perhaps THS could just put icons of paws, fins, hooves etc and we just guess what they all are
We are already guessing, aren’t we?
