Hello all! I’m a new sitter who has been chatting to an owner looking for someone to watch their pets for a week. She’s said over chat that she will see me on the start date, but I don’t have any confirmation of the acceptance of my application. Is this something I need to push for to make sure she can’t choose another sitter instead of me? Just want to make sure all my bases are covered and there’s no chance of my sit being rejected. Thanks!
Yes definitely. You both need to confirm through the system. Is she a first time HO? She may not realise she needs to do this,
You are right. Send her a message and tell her she would need to confirm the sit should she want to have an agreement with you. You should also ask for the welcome guide, as there can be vital information there and questions might arise.
Hi @Kymclohe. The HO needs to send you an invitation to sit with the specified dates. You will then hit the ‘confirm’ button. Only then is it official.
The sit will then be on your dashboard, you can request the Welcome Guide, etc
She is not a first time HO, which makes me slightly nervous. Not sure what to look out for.
Don’t look out for anything, and don’t wait for them to move, ask them directly to send the invitation for you to confirm.
Maybe they forgot, maybe they just want to keep you warm because they’re talking to somebody else.
I had similar. Waited after the interview, then I did a nudge and she sent confirmation.
Yes. Nudge away!
I read this, and similar stuff, and I wonder what kind of sh*t you, nice and conscientious sitters, run into all the time! (Well, I suppose it’s a rarity, but the forum exaggerates these situations of course.). When I have a video call with a prospective sitter - and I’ll only have one with sitters that a rapport has been built with and that 's bar-a-complete-showstopper is sure to be invited, I’ll tell them how I feel and if we both agree we want to join hands, they will have the invite the second I close the video window. Why would anyone keep anybody hanging? Well, I mean “without saying so”, because “I’m also talking to somebody else and I need a day to wait for their response” is completely legit of course. (From both sides)
Makes sense! I’ve sent her a nudge. Thanks for all the help!
Did it work?
Let the home owner know that you can’t guarantee you will be able to do their sit until the sit is confirmed through THS. That normally works.
She hasn’t responded. How long do you think I should wait before telling them I need to move on with looking for more sits? It’s just weird as she’s given me her address!
Until the HO sends you a formal invite AND you accept that invitation, you’re free to apply to other sits during the same period.
You should tell her as soon as possible or you’re just hanging on for no reason. She needs to commit or you need to move on. The best sits are those with clear, prompt comms from the outset. #itsgoodtotalk
Well - the obvious way to go here is two-pronged:
- tell the HO extremely clearly that you are going to jump ship if she does not send a formal invite
- search for other sits and apply
Nothing but the strong sense of responsibility is binding you to this sit! But the feeling of responsibility has to be mutual.
Is this communication taking place on THS site or do you have their phone number?
If you know they have read your message and have not answered, I would move on.
She’s accepted the sit, thanks for the help and advice!
Glad to hear. Now you can relax.
Thanks for updating. Too many threads are abandoned by original posters after their venting. It can be frustrating after all the time and effort the forum community put trying to share experiences.
Really appreciated.
