Hello, we’re fairly new to this but have had three really good sitters in the past twelve months. Quite a few have “saved our listing” as well. To begin with, last year, we lost a couple of sitters as we didn’t respond quickly enough but this time our post has been up over a week and no one has applied. It’s such a contrast and I wonder why, so would welcome feedback on our profile…or is it just that we want someone to come to England in November?!
You have really good reviews and a good listing. So it could very well be that not as many people will the looking to sit in a quiet area in the autumn.
You have mentioned that there are more walks in the car and a sitter would also need a car to go shopping and visit the beaches. Would you be able to supply a car which may bring more interest?
We travel by car but, like others, do not want to put dogs in our own car
You guys sound great as does the house and the cute dogs. And hey, who doesn’t love an Aga, walks, the pub and a Cornish village in autumn. The main blocker would be needing a car so either being able to offer a car or if you could pick the sitters up from a train station and order groceries online that could solve it for a 9 day sit? How long can the pooches be left for & where do they sleep would be two other key bits of info that sitter’s are looking for. You might just be early as everyone is still in summer mode. If you tweak, pause & relist it will go to the new pile again which may help too. #fingerscrossed
You mentioned 6 miles from the sea, but maybe add how long it will take to drive there (i can’t visualise distances as much as travel times).
I know you’ve said it’s not accessible by public transport but sometimes HO’s tick that but there’s a local infrequent bus service. Is there a bus service that’s a walk away or can people easily travel from the station at Liskeard?. Is there a cab service from the station to your house?
I don’t have a car but I am often quite happy to be on a rural sit enjoying the countryside as a change of scenery as I work from home. You might attract someone similar.
And as others have said, I’d add in how long the dogs can left on their own for.
Good luck. I’m sure you will find the right person soon.
Your listing is well-written and your friendly attitude comes through, please note that your dates are in October, not November.
Reiterating that the use of a car would make the listing more enticing and suggesting you mention that you can pick-up/drop-off at the train station.
For me, the only off-putting item is that you state that 20-30 minutes is a short walk. Maybe mention that as long as they get a total of X minutes of activity per day, you’re fine with flexibility?
Welcome @MarkAllen. You have a lovely listing with two gorgeous cavapoos and very positive reviews from your three sitters. Your dates actually say October, not November. No need to panic yet as you still have time to secure sitters. What you can do is remove your dates briefly then re-list them. This will make your listing New again and sitters will see it. You can do this as often as you want to.
This Aussie sitter loves your part of Cornwall, having sat in Lostwithiel and Looe, plus visited cousins who were holidaying at Duloe Manor. Sadly, I’m usually only in England during your summer, otherwise, I would be applying for your sit.
I am the same as you have a listing for a Cornwall sit in October/November had lots of sitters save the listing (I think that’s it) but the only 1 person I had apply withdrew within 24 hours of showing an interest after I tried to make contact.

It looks a lovely sit. I couldn’t obviously see how long the dogs could be left for. Perhaps make that more prominent unless my skim-reading skills failed me on this occasion.
To add to the previous comments and to be helpful, I would definitely add a photo of the shower room as a quick skim through only shows a bathroom with handheld shower- at this point as a sitter I’d click away. Reading further however you mention a separate shower- so I’d show that rather than it being buried in text.
I’m also wondering if it’s not helpful to have summer photos showing when the listing is for dates in late October? Perhaps more realistic winter photos might feel more genuine… I’m nit picking perhaps, but it was a thought that crossed my mind ‘I bet it’s not like this in the winter’. It might be an idea to add a cosy fire image, Autumn garden colours etc if you have some.
Yes, it’s a separate, and quite new shower…but the room itself is tinty and a photo will be challenging - but I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the advice!
Wow, what an amazing response from the forum. I’m so grateful for so much interest and helpful advice. I’ll revisit the listing and take it offline in a few days too. I really appreciate so many taking the time to read and comment, thank you all for sharing your expertise!
Thanks, a couple of people have made that comment; there’s a tick box as you prepare the listing but I’m not sure where the infomration can be seen. I’ll add it to my write-up.
Thanks for your suggestions. We are a bit wary of lending a car though I can see of course it might make the stay more appealing. I’ll raise that as a new topic rather than go off on a tangent here!
