I have come to the conclusion that (in the UK) Poppy is the most popular name for dogs, but how about some unusual pet names you have encountered?
I’ve taken care of a dog named Frog, and (for me, the winner) a cat named Hindsight.
How about you?

I’ve looked after a New Zealand Heading dog called Zippy (in New Zealand) and a young Staffy dog called Squid in Western Australia. Perhaps it’s just us Brits who give their pets boring names!
A funny tale I heard was about the couple who lived on the coast and named their dog ‘Shark’. Certainly caused chaos when they walked him at the beach and had to call him back
A cat called Toulouse, he had only one eye!
I lregularly ook after a cute mixed breed dog named Soup
Sister Mary the cat made me laugh I’ve also looked after a Frog who was a horse.
I’m spending New Year with a cute dog called Psoglav, Soggy to his friends.
My neighbour has a pet called Traveler, but right now I don’t remember if it’s the parrot or the donkey…
I’ve come across a few quirky ones (I had a cat called Pharmaceutical, for one, and another called Fatal.) But I swear, if I come across another btch called Nala or dog called Alfie (well, in the UK at least)…!
How funny that on a pet-sitting site we’re not allowed to say "btch" …!
One of my own cats was called ET because he had the same kind of eyes as his namesake.
Sisyphus would have to be the strangest name for a cat that I have cared for.
I sat a dog called Rabbit
We looked after a cat named ‘Mr Grey Cat’ - The owner only had him initially on a short term basis whilst permanent owners could be found so wanted to leave the naming to his future owners and got into the habit of calling him Mr Grey Cat.
The inevitable happened, she fell in love with him and decided to keep him. However when she tried to give him a 'real name he would not react to it - hence Mr Grey Cat stuck!
There was quite a bit of panic in Spain while walking Lume, whose recall was nearly nonexistent. Screaming “Lume” through the woods during summer was quite an adventure.
“Brokkoli,” the cat, was also hilarious.
My husband named our latest cat , Kalapas, which is a Buddhist term for the smallest units of physical matter and guess what? He’s HUGE
One of my best friends has a dog called… Doggy funnily enough it really suits her!
Some cute dog names like Reese & Peanut (brother and sister) or Biscuit and the cat called Romeo Next year on our summer sit we’ll be taking care of Tina Turner and Kit Kat
I’ve looked after a British Squid, a lovely chihuahua-Pomerania mix.
@Dee2 We’ve sat a dog called Moose!
I did spot one sit, not long ago, where the pets all had biblical names.
One of the dogs was “Zadok the Beast” (there’s a choral work called Zadok the Priest that was beyond me and made me leave the school choir).
The cat was called Ecclesiastes, which actually suited him from his photo - he was a grand looking siamese or similar.
I almost applied for the names alone, although there would have been zero chance of my older son remembering Ecclesiastes name - he has my mother in law’s affliction with names. She used to have to go through all the children and grandchildren to eventually arrive at the right name!
