@Highfive talking big breeds, have you ever met a EURASIER? cross between a European Spitz and an Asian Chow Chow? absolutely gorgeous. Look at that tongue!!! These 3 are in one household, an on this site. They were a joy to look after. The rough ollie in the middle made up this family of 3.

Wow that’s some grooming challenge lol but yes absolutely stunning.
Better in a cold climate I should think!
That tongue looks like mine after a few red wines lol
Never seen that variegated look or multicoloured look.
Love how he likes to show it off. I generally don’t!

in Scotland, so definitely cold enough, although I looked after them a weekend in May last year on an unseasonably warm weekend.

Here’s my prize winning Great Dane with my Welsh Mum in the distance! She had full control . Order of the dog bowl has its impact! She fed him and he slept on her bed. He never pulled on the lead and as he’d been shown a lot by the previous owner was great about being handled and made a fuss of.
His show name was Spearmount Stormmaster.
We called him Storm.
He hated water as in a bath. He went in the sea because I was swimming, love him. He’s a big miss, as you’d expect!

great camera angle, to further emphasise size

I refer to it as a “Drumstick lolly” tongue, I hope you have them in your country, to appreciate the connection.

This is an Alsatian Spaniel cross. Police Alsatian used for Protection and a Spaniel used for Sniffer job. Great parentage.

Funny enough, I always look at the dog first when I check out a listing (which is why I’d absolutely love it if the listing previews would always show the dog or at least the breed separately). And if I don’t find the dog cute, I just scroll on.

Funnily enough, I’ve come to find almost all dogs cute at this point — and some of the best dogs we’ve looked after were actually the ones I didn’t find that attractive at first. Sometimes my husband looks at me like I’m crazy when I suddenly gaze lovingly at a dog we see on the street that’s objectively “ugly.”

I don’t think there’s such a thing as “objective” beauty but I do agree that there are certain patterns of beauty that are commonly accepted by some human groups and not necessarily shared by others.

Sorry, maybe it was a bit wrongly worded, you are right. For me, all dogs are now beautiful to me. :pink_heart:

On second thoughts, there may be some kind of “objective” beauty for pets, referred to certain standards set for each breed in pet contests and shows. But I don’t think most sitters or pet owners care much about those. As you say, all dogs (and cats) are beautiful for me. The more I get to know them, the more beautiful they become.

My husband had Chows for 30 years, the last one lived with us. Chows are similar to polar bears in that they’re double-coated and have blue tongues and unlike most dog breeds that have 42 teeth, Chows have 44.

Really? Wow, didn’t know that!

So I’m on a sit and I’ve had to drop the dog off at the beauty parlour. Checked first on location of parlour and if I needed to bring more than the collar and lead and dog. That’s all. He gets washed and his nails done .
The technician said it was the small dogs that bite, in his experience. He was washing a Staffie Pit bull cross.. not for the faint hearted!
My little chap is a French Bulldog and a true gent.
He tells owners to drop and collect later as the pets get nervous otherwise .
Here’s my beauty treatment!

Shay has that take me shopping too look! Ha ha! He loves trips out and is super sociable. A real pleasure to see him interact with dogs… but birds and cats.. not so much!
This hedgehog meet was impromptu!

I think cats, in general are like film stars posing at a photocall. They have all sorts of amazingly beautiful poses.

But the representation of beauty and warmth is the sight of different pets (even different species) posing in harmony.

At first I thought these dogs rather ugly.. but now I can see their appeal. The big eyes and flat face are rather unusual but typical of the bulldog breeds. I find it endearing that the dog snores almost as loudly as I do, according to my wife!

I also find those big, round eyes gorgeous and the snoring is cute.

The last cat I looked after also snores a bit and I felt it was relaxing.
