Pet parent’s membership has lapsed

Hello! My next housesit is going to start soon and I’ve just discovered that the pet parent’s membership has lapsed.
How does this impact in my sit? Will they be able to leave a review? Will I be able to leave a review?

Welcome to the forum @carolstoffel

No reviews for either of you and you won’t be covered by THS insurance or have access to member support if anything goes wrong .
You also won’t be able to message them
on the platform or see the Welcome Guide .

Hopefully you have their contact number so that you can still contact them ?

It’s fine to go ahead as long as you both understand that it’s now it’s a private sit arrangement.

Or they could renew their membership before the start date to make it all officially again .

Was it THS that informed you about this or the host themselves ? Was this sit confirmed along time ago ? I thought that something was put in place to prevent this from happening now .

This has come up before but can’t remember what was said. I would seek THS advice. Technically it is no longer a THS sit if they are not a member? But that’s just my thoughts.

Neither yourself nor the homeowners will be able to leave a review when a membership has lapsed. If they don’t want to renew, you can request a personal reference from them which will show on your profile page with your other reviews.

I would add that as it not then a THS-sit anymore and you probably confirmed the sit that it would be, then the basis of your agreement is changed and you can cancel the sit should you wish to.

If it is important that it is a THS-sit, one can say that they can choose to renew or cancel.

You would be doing it away from THS if you went ahead with it, so I’d pop them a message and say you’d noticed their membership had lapsed, and you need it to be in place from an insurance aspect, and could they possibly renew it within the next couple of days so you can start making your travel plans.

Be sweet and nice, they may not have even noticed, and see what they say, and if they don’t want to re-join then that’s up to you what you whether you still do it or not.

I know I ignore the THS emails that get sent to me, as there’s way too many marketing ones, so they probably haven’t noticed.

This is a situation where it would be extremely useful for the sitter to get an automated message from THS stating that the owner is no longer a member, giving the sitter the opportunity to cancel.

It pings you if the sit is already booked and renewal date comes along & says “Bob has cancelled your sit”. Or that’s what it did the other day. Luckily we knew them (& that the sit would now be outside of THS) or it would have been a shock! #comeonthsdetailsdetails

That’s good to know @Cuttlefish is,
When you say “pings” do you mean a notification or an e-mail ?

Does the sit also disappear from your dashboard and free you up to book other sits ?

Is this what happened in your case @carolstoffel ?

I recall that previously it was still shown on your dashboard although you couldn’t contact the host or see the Welcome Guide .

Hey, the sit was still showing on our dashboard although we couldn’t contact the host or see the Welcome Guide .

We had the housesit phone number and we told them what happened. They thought that would be renewed automatically. They already renewed it  Thanks for the help.

Brilliant, a happy ending. Enjoy your sit.

It came as both an alert on a text and an email to say the sit was cancelled. It doesn’t tell you that the HO hasn’t renewed so it’s a bit off putting @Silversitters #spooked
