I hope someone thanks them each day & they know they’re valued .
Happy furry friday
Story in NY Times on dogs sleeping in the bed - about sleep quality for the human and the dog. (Maybe behind the pay wall.). Not new, but just found it.
Out of the Doghouse, Into the Bed
Love the piggies names!
The number of dogs being adopted surged dramatically during the lockdowns. In the UK one report estimates that 3.5 million dogs were purchased during the pandemic, taking the number in the country up from nine million in 2019/20 to 12.5 million in 2020/21. This growth follows after the figure had remained steady at nine million for three years prior to the pandemic.
It is also a similar picture in the US, where nine million dogs were adopted by families during Covid-19, taking the total up to 108 million.
Hi @Snowbird Thank you for posting, this is relevant to the situation.
Shelters are also reporting pets being surrendered with many behavioral issues due to lack of socialization. I have also shared in the pet category.
I posted this link to another group I’m in and the discussion turned to how many of these new pets are now going to be surrendered/abandoned now that people are going back to their normal lives. From a friend in the group:
My friend works with local rescue and says it’s brutal and the wave of incoming pets started last year. Lots of pets with severe separation anxiety or unsocialized dogs and stuff… they’re not easy to rehome
Max The Miracle Dog Sadly Passed Away On April 5th …
Max the Miracle Dog gained worldwide fame when videos of his walks in the Lake District were posted on Facebook.
His owner Kerry Irving credits Max - who was immortalised as a statue - with saving his life after the locksmith from Keswick was left in agonising pain and depression after a car crash.
The day Keswick turned orange for the Springer Spaniel with the big brown eyes, huge heart and non stop wagging tail.
Max. The Worlds most loved dog
Total raised £27,584.00
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
You are all truly amazing
Here in Massachusetts USA, we have a special dog, Spencer, who is a therapy dog. Recently he’s been diagnosed with cancer but every year he greets the many runners on the Boston Marathon course.
Spencer the Golden Retriever
I noticed this year’s travelling Banff film fest has a cool short film featuring trail doggies . Ok, it may be by Shimano, but doggos on dog friendly trails is still cool & reminds me why dirt’s so much fun
This short film is delightful and had me laughing watching the dogs faces and how happy they were to be running on the trails. I loved it. Thank you!
It’s good to see more recognition of the impact of the pandemic on pets & the surge in house sits over in Aus.
Yep which is another reason for the huge demand for sitters now. Timing is everything, decreased restrictions to travel, increase confidence to travel, more pet companions, Spring and Summer holidays…
it’s wonderfully wonderful.
Would love to meet this kitty
How lovely
I’m in awe of LandSar (land search n rescue) NZ Avalanche dogs & have been following a few in midst of their training for this season.
Madolline is a TrustedHousesitters super cat sitter … read her story about Bones
Gourley explains, “Bones is truly the most affectionate and needy cat ever. I was warned, but I wasn’t sure it would be true. It was true.”
I read this article before seeing it here. It was quite informative and interesting. Unfortunately I think it will be behind a paywall unless you have a subscription.
