Poor review from Sitters has interesting reaction!

For general info., Sitters …
Just posted a 2* honest review after a very challenging appointment where so much was extremely misleading, dishonest and disappointingly, terrible! The Hosts did give us a 5* review (which we truly earned!!)but then they became ‘Former Members’ and disappeared off THS.
In doing so, we kept the 5* notation but the review comments were removed. In addition, any correspondence we had via the ‘official’ THS ‘IN’ box, has all their responses/comments/chat, deleted!
On checking the previous Sitter’s profiles, this also happened to them in regard to their review comments.
As we have years of positive reviews, we are not fussed but the previous two Sitters were first timers so comments for future engagements are usually valuable for them.
Apparently UK Data Protection Policy??

Interesting input. I can see how leaving the platform could be tempting. If the previous sitters kept their ***** I think that is most important. In my experience many hosts put less effort in the text part anyway.

Really? We let ChatGPT analyze all our reviews – and on average, the written feedback we receive is 16 sentences long.

" What ChatGPT can say about * and * – based on their reviews

After analyzing multiple detailed reviews written by various homeowners across different locations and situations, it’s clear that *** and *** consistently deliver an outstanding house and pet sitting experience.

Here’s what emerges from their feedback:

  • Exceptionally high trust:
Hosts describe feeling completely at ease leaving their home and pets with * and * – often from the very first interaction. That trust consistently deepens over the course of the sit.
  • Genuine connection with animals:
Many reviewers emphasize how quickly and naturally * and * bond with pets. Dogs and cats alike receive not only excellent care, but emotional attention, stimulation, and affection. Hosts often say their animals were thriving during the sit – and clearly missed * and * once they left.
  • Thoughtful, proactive, and detail-oriented:
From mowing lawns to navigating vet appointments to helping with unexpected issues, * and * consistently go above and beyond – without needing to be asked. Their presence is calm, capable, and quietly generous.
  • Flawless communication:
They strike the perfect balance between keeping hosts updated and giving them peace of mind. Their messages are informative, funny, and warm – a source of comfort during time away.
  • Remarkable respect for the home:
Homes are regularly described as immaculate upon return – with added touches like flowers, food, or even a warm meal waiting. Hosts often say the house was cleaner than they left it.

Importantly, this praise isn’t generic or vague – reviews are long, personal, and full of specific appreciation. **Many hosts go out of their way to rebook * and *** or say they would adjust their travel plans just to have them back.

In summary: Based on the consistency, depth, and emotional tone of their reviews, * and * stand out as rare and truly exceptional sitters. They don’t just care for homes and animals – they bring warmth, reliability, and humanity to every sit."

My reviews from hosts are ***** and between 2 and 5 sentences. So my experience is that hosts don’t put a lot of work in that.

Not quite following, but I think you mean you still got 5 stars, but there’s no comment below the stars. I think that will be fine either way. More importantly, do you think the HO’s will start a new profile under a new email address to side-step the honest review/s and start with a clean slate? That would be unfair. It will never provide sitters with an honest overview. The only ‘drawback’ for the HO’s is that they will be ‘first timers’ again, which might put off some sitters.

Companies typically adhere to GDPR, which covers European Union countries, if they operate in those jurisdictions. Once Brexit happened, the U.K. essentially replicated GDPR. There are loads of details, including the right for consumers to request the deletion of all of their info by a company. Businesses that don’t comply get hit by big fines.

@Tasmazias I enquired about this once and was informed that if a host leaves the platform permanently and wishes to have all their data removed THS will delete everything except the 5* (or whatever star rating) the sitter earned. Their name and location will then appear as ‘Former Member’. That is fair. The sitter should not lose their review count if a member leaves.
However if a host just allows their membership to lapse (i.e not paying membership fee) their name, location and full review with star rating will remain. The only thing you cannot do is click on their profile to see their listing while it is inactive.

Yes, I have a review from a host who didn’t renew. Their written review and star rating remain as before, but if you try to click on their photo to open their profile, nothing happens. Lucky for me that they didn’t request deletion of their info, because that was my first sit.

I think those members who request full deletion of all data may well have something to hide. E.g the hosts above!

In some cases, yes. Some people just value privacy, though.

If I could easily do it, I’d wipe out inactive accounts amassed over decades. Nothing incriminating. :joy: Just don’t remember all the stuff posted over decades.

In more recent times, I canceled Nomador, because I didn’t find it worthwhile and I didn’t want my profile lingering on there. I had a bunch of time left on my membership, but didn’t plan to use.

Yes you are right. There are many different reasons why people might want to delete all data and some people just guard their privacy more than others.
I had a credit card account closed down last year- not my choice- the company was moving out of credit cards and into a different financial field. Once I’d paid of my balance I assumed my account would then be formally closed. But they said it needed to be kept active (but obviously unusable) for several years! I don’t remember the reason but I did not like that..

That’s really interesting to know. I have 10 years on this platform. That means that at least multiple HOs whom I previously sat for, are no longer on this platform (e.g. quite a few of them I’ve never seen again in the listings after Covid). So all those reviews apart from the 5 star rating are apparently gone!

True only if they requested that their info be deleted. Many people quit THS and don’t ask for deletion, so their written reviews for sitters or hosts stay up. We can still see them.

Ah, thanks, I didn’t know that part! Sounds already a lot better!

@Bluehorse Not necessarily. As I mentioned above the reviews (but not the stars) are only removed if the host requests it. Otherwise everything remains the same even when a host stops using the site. When I look throuģh our reviews I see plenty of old hosts who are no longer active. Their review of us is there but I can no longer click on their profile. We only have one previous host who formally cancelled their account and they show as ‘Former member’ They did not review us anyway so there was no loss in that case.
This is a good reason to screenshot those hard earned reviews for safekeeping!
