Rental Cars in UK- Good news!

Rental Car price update!
There has been much talk about extortionate car rental prices everywhere in recent times, especially in the UK, so I wanted to share good news!
Prices have gone WAY down again!
Just booked a car for pick up at London Heathrow next week (7th Feb) for £150 for TWO weeks!! I think that might be the cheapest rental we ever found in the UK!
Booked through EasyCar.com.
We have a separate Excess insurance policy through iCarhireinsurance.com £49.99 for the Europe annual policy (unlimited rentals up to 60 days per rental)
Yay!!! :star_struck:

Thanks @Lokstar for this. I hope car rentals continue to drop in UK! I only checked last week with the company I usually book through and it was still very high. Don’t need to book yet so I’ll be watching closely.

@Lokstar Thanks, that is good to hear. If you think of it, could you please update us with your opinion of Easycar once your rental is done?

That is a bargain!

We googled all the main car rental comparison sites and the two that brought up the cheapest deals were kayak.com and travelsupermarket.com. After so much research I’m not sure- in the end- which of those two got us the EasyCar deal but the other site had the same priced deal with Argus. Its really worth shopping around!!

Will do!
Just to say- we never pay the extra excess insurance the company offers. We always have a separate excess policy through iCarhireinsurance.com Rental companies don’t like that because you save a fortune & still have full protection! Never had to claim till now but it definitely does give peace of mind.

I never pay insurance either, luckily my credit card picks it up. I’m always just a little leery of the consolidator companies (if that’s what they’re called). I’ve read horror stories. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. This one’s important!

We never pay the extra excess insurance either as it’s covered in our travel insurance policy.

Wow! Are you sure about that? It just doesn’t seem right, slightly more than £10 per day. I’d double & triple check that if I was you

I have excess through Swinton

That’s an amazing deal! Thanks for sharing & the use of an annual policy plan @Lokstar - TBH my other thought as I read the post was, what a shame you’re landing at Heathrow as I also arrive into the UK 7 Feb for a quick visit but into Brum. Would have been nice to hug a fellow THS forum friend :joy::joy:

It’s true! And there are a lot of cheap deals around now- not through the big dealers ofcourse- but if you use one of the comparison sites I mentioned above you’ll find them! These prices do not include the excess insurance they always want to sell you. We have a separate policy for that which saves a fortune! I just checked Malaga for the very same dates and its soo cheap! See screenshot.

A couple of years ago we got a spectacular deal in Malaga- €30 for a whole month!! The deals are there- you just have to find them!! In comparison £11 a day in UK is not that cheap! But very much better that it has been if late!

Aaaw that would have been fun! Does Brum=Birmingham? How long will you be in UK? Where are you flying in from? We’re flying from Bali via Singapore- the Singapore-LHR leg is 14.5 hours!:upside_down_face:

Wow! It’s not cheap here in New Zealand

It does mean Birmingham :joy: coming in from Prague and then back out to Istanbul 8 days later to collect hubby & then onto KL after a couple of Turkish sits. Safe travels! We will feel that 14 hour pain soon

Or Australia @Smiley @Lokstar!

Sorry to be a killjoy but car rental prices are always low this time of year. I have a very low price at the moment which was the same last January and in early December but prices for March and April are sky-high again.

Hi @londongal
You are partially right!:face_with_hand_over_mouth: but not completely!
I just checked the same two weeks in March and April and the best deals I found were £250 (March) & £350 (April) for TWO weeks. (£150 Feb) So that part is correct- prices are rising heading towards Easter.
But our experience was very different last year- not cheap at all!
We landed on exactly the same day last year- 7th Feb -and the prices were around £280 per WEEK at Heathrow, where this time we got TWO weeks for £150! (£75 pw!) So last year we ended up flying into Birmingham (from Spain) because the rentals were the cheapest of all UK airports that week- best deal was £175 for ONE week!
Always the bargain hunter!

@Lokstar Gotta hunt out those bargains! Pre-covid and low-season I got a three-week rental in Ireland for €120. Miss those days.

@Lokstar you’re a superstar! Just booked 10 days for £133 out of Birmingham airport (last time I looked it was extortionate) & took out the annual policy for the excess. #ingenious :raised_hands:
