Your listing is very minimal. I think you would need to work on it to get applicants.

Intro. : Why should a sitter consider to go there? What is there to see/ do? If this is not in intro., many would not continue to read your listing, but simply scroll on to the next.

Where is nearest airport/ train station, how far?

Is a car required to get around, getting groceries etc.? Is there public transport that is practical to use, and/ or is anything walkable, is it possible to use your car?

Re. pet: what schedule is the pet used to? Describe times for feeding/ walks, how long are the walks, how long can the pet be left during the day, where does the dog sleep (if with owner/ in bedroom, is it optional or necessary (barking, panting, scratching…)

I’m sure others will add helpful advice.

@Lindy, sorry to hear that you’re struggling to attract housesitters. We know your area - indeed we’re south of you for next few months - alas fully booked. I’d support comments by @Garfield. Sorry but it’s time to invest time into your listing. Especially in regards:

  • transportation to/from property for housesittters, including from airport (presumably Kelowna)
  • pet responsibilities (e.g. how long can Everest be left? … this may be of acute interest to housesitters that seek to enjoy winter sports)
  • car use (if appropriate, this can be highly appealing to non-local housesitters)
  • neighbours/family (see above … three week housesit … can neighbour/family look in on housesitters on accasional days when then enjoy local attractions? … not every day as that’s housesitter responsibility but occasionally)
  • local attractions (Salmon Arm, etc has some super features … explain it in terms that are understandable by non-locals)
  • risk reduction (as appropriate then suggest state that trip is booked; welcome guide is prepared; and any other details that may attract non-local housesitters)
    Good luck!

Hello and happy holidays

Some great advice here already, I would also add that you haven’t filled out your amenities section (which is important, because in this section you disclose any outdoor security cameras that you may have). Personally, I skip listings with an incomplete amenities section as I don’t know whether cameras are present or not and it’s against policy to not disclose them in the listing.

You could definitely do with some more pictures of your home’s interior such as the kitchen, dining room & laundry. Try changing your cover photo to your second photo (the lake) as this is a more striking image that draws more attention. Your title is quite long & wordy - after about 6 words, titles in a listing’s preview get cut off, so consider a title that uses 6 key words - for example “Explore Blind Bay with Everest!”

Your introduction section should tell sitters what is on offer at your sit, why they should pick you, and should give some details about yourself, your home and Everest. Tell sitters when you expect them to arrive (the day before, for example?) and how many sitters you can host (could you host a family for example, or just 1 - 2 sitters?) Can sitters bring their own pets, and is your sit suitable for children?

Your home and location section is where you can really sell your sit by telling sitters why they should sit for you and come visit your area, and what amenities your home offers them. You live in a beautiful area, so you have plenty you can talk about!

Your responsibilities section is where you should tell sitters what Everest’s daily routine is, when and how long walks are, what his personality & sociability is like, how long he can be left for, where he sleeps and if he has any health or behavioural problems, as well as any other house responsibilities there are. Lack of detail often means sitters skip your listing, because they don’t know what to expect from your sit.

Here is a blog that may be helpful.

Hope that helps and best of luck!
