Searching areas

Hi
I am not getting any interest in my house sit at the moment so I went on the site to see what potential sitters would see. I typed my location area in the search bar and soooo many sits showed up not even in my area and mine was many many many pages after even with the exact are search!? how does this work?

There’s a lot of competition in UK for sitters. I took a quick look at your listing, and there are a few things you could consider to make it more appealing.

You lack some info that many sitters look for. For instance, I can’t see a compelling reason for why I should keep reading your listing in your Intro. I think THS might nudge hosts to tell about yourselves, but as a sitter with loads of listings you would be better off telling me already there why I would need to use time and money to go to your area. Then I will read the rest of your listing and not scrooll on to the next one.

It is good advice to give info on how we can get to you. distance from station is probably by car? Is it walkable? Can you pick up from station etc? Can I manage during the sit without a car, get groceries, walk to a cafe or similar (or good bus-service).

Sitters need to know how long the dogs can be left. Preferable 6+ hours, but at least 4+ - less than that and you miss out on many sitters. Even people that work from home want to go out sometimes.

The sit is quite short for someone to come long distance. You also miss out on many sitters because you only offer a single bed. Even as a solo sitter that is too small for me. Personally my bed is 150x200, I would consider a UK double a small bed.

I understand why you would like a single person, and maybe that is needed, but if you could offer the sit for a couple and with a comfortable bed that would be a great difference in pool of sitters. Consider offering your master bedroom if possible, also for a solo sitter. It comes off as more hospitable (even if the sitter then chooses the guest room).

I think if you un-publish and then publish dates again your listing will come to the top, but I believe the listing might have issues and not the “place in the line”. Other listings might well come off as more appealing.

Hope that can be of help. The pups are lovely!

I agree with Garfield about hosts writing a lot about themselves. Some so much that by the time they get to the pet, very little is written. For me personally this is not important unless you are a convicted felon.

I will not be spending time with you but with the pets so I want to know as much as possible about them and their routine. Also all the other things Garfield mentioned.

I agree with you about the search system. I have also searched for an area and see one or two in that area and then other areas not asked for, for about 6 more houses and then back to the area I asked for. I don’t know why they do this but I think that should be changed. I almost clicked off after the houses were no longer in the area I searched for and wanted.

Your listing looks nice. The pictures of your home and pets are really great. Wish I lived closer, I would certainly apply. (in the usa).
