Hi. We’re past members who have just rejoined to look for a sitter after our friend who was booked to housesit/dogsit in March had to cancel due to family illness. We are members of a houseswap site as well, and their search options seem a bit better - We have the option of searching for people who are looking to come to our city (which gives better chance of request success). How do we do that sort of search on THS? N&J
@NickyM
Unfortunately, that isn’t possible I guess it isn’t a priority to THS despite the home owners wishes.
Your best bet is to make an attractive post and people interested will contact you. If it’s been a little while since you’ve been on, THS limits the number of applicants to 5 and pause your listing. There has been tremendous feedback against the policy but THS thought they were fixing a different problem and won’t consider changing.
You can reject some or all of the 5, unpause your listing to get more applications.

What @NickyM said. Have a look at some other homeowners’ listings so you can see how they post their listings. Then people who are interested in coming to your city will apply. They do the work of searching where they want to go – you don’t have to.
Seems a bit nuts that you can’t search prospective sitters as to where they would like to house/pet sit? It IS the most successful and fastest way of finding the best fit, we would have thought? N&J
You just have to post your listing and let people apply. If they want to be in your area they will already have searches set up and the app will alert them
There’s so many other factors to consider in order for that to be successful. For example, we’d love to sit in Japan, but only for two weeks or longer, and only from September to November. We’d love to sit in Vancouver from June to August, but only for a month or longer, and only in an area that has public transport or access to a car.
Just seeing that I’m interested in your area won’t really help you once all the other factors are considered.
With a decent profile, you should have no trouble getting enough applicants. Only one has to be suitable in the end.
@CoolCatAunt explains in very well: being interested in your area doesn’t automatically translate into “when you want them to”.
If you actually post the dates, the applicants who are in your city or want to come there for a sit will have the option to apply, so it’s pretty simple.
Thanks Enjaybee. We have someone very suitable who has applied and will accept their offer to sit for us.
I guess the difference in systems is just that I like to be proactive, and waiting for people to apply to our petsit opportunity is effectively reactive. Just a different style. Cheers. N&J
