We’re nearly halfway through December - can you believe it!
Inspired by a comment from @MaggieUU and by @Colin 's lovely Christmas Sit post, I wanted to create a space to share what you’ve been up to in December whether it’s festive fun, or a wintery and wonderful sit.
Whether you’re spending the holidays on a sit, or relaxing at home, please feel free to share a photo, or write a reply, and let us know what you’ve been up to or what your upcoming holiday plans are. Those of you in the southern hemisphere might like to make us envious with some summer photos!
I’ll be spending the holidays with a long time friend here in California on the central coast including her cat . Up until then I’ve been spending time at home in San Francisco wirh my fur nephew aka Poo Bear whose Mom I’ve been friend’s with for over 30 years. After Christmas ill have a private sit through New Years with two silly little floofs who’ll surely keep me entertained. Photos are of me and Poo Bear, then Hazel ( Cavapoo) and Penny Yorkshire terrier who’ll I’ll be with through New Years ( private sit)
My last sit was on a farm which was hosting the village Christmas Fayre. I watched each day leading up to the weekend as the barn was converted into a Christmas venue with fairy lights, straw bales for sitting on, and then lots of stalls over the 2 days.
Our dog is happily with familiar and kind sitters while we travel. One of them knew him from years ago, because she worked at the shelter where he sat for months, after being adopted and returned. Now, the woman works from home on 20+ acres, so our dog gets a vacation, too.
We’re in Jolly old London before our New Forest Christmas sit begins this weekend I I highly recommend seeing The Devil Wears Prada musical if you’re in London, music scored by Elton John and starring Vanessa Williams. We went last night and it was fabulous
Today Sweden and other Scandinavian countries celebrates Lucia Day. «The event symbolizes light in a dark winter. Celebrated annually in December, this historic custom is an atmospheric event involving Christmassy treats and a singing line-up of candle-carrying characters dressed (mostly) in white gowns .»
In kindergartens it is customary that the parents (and grandparents) come when the kindergarten opens to take part in a morning celebration with a childrens parade, coffee and «lussekatter» (a traditional bun made with saffron and specially shaped). Schools will sometimes have celebrations - even some workplaces (at least the buns! ).
So be on the lookout if you’re petsitting there.
Christmas in the New Forest will be lovely - I live on the edge of The Forest and (after a Christmas sit in Wiltshire) sitting in Minstead over New Year. Let me know if you’d like a festive meet-up with a local!
I sent the owners a Christmas card from their cat, Archie I’m in a small town in England right now until Friday, then spending Christmas and New Years in London with a dog.
A huge thanks to everyone who has shared their December adventures so far, I’ve loved reading through what everyone’s up to, and seeing your photos.
