Silence so far

I don’t think it matters that much. If she had flown in via Brussels, the risk of being selected for questioning should not have been that much lower. Such things depend on how you look, on your travel history, on how long you intend to stay.

I know of a case at the UK border. It is called International Housesitting and Tourist Visas by Gobsmacked at Gatwick (Prt 1) on the Housesit Match site.

Thanks for the info.

Ive put my listing on my profile today. If anyone could have a look that would be good.
Whilst doing that I found that I’m listed in another town of the same name in UK, miles from where we are! On the signup page there are 4 Brandons listed with no difference for each one, ie no county. Its a trial and error to get the right one. I was number 3 of 4. Madness!

Your doggies and profile is very much on point for my liking!

I didn’t find how long the pets can be alone? That is important to include.

Maybe a couple of words on feeding. Would presume it is something about portions, possibly from freezer, thawing the night before? Not everybody are used to raw feeding and/ or there could be different ways to do it (?).

I agree with @Garfield that you should mention how long the dogs can be left alone.

I wouldn’t use the map as your front picture, you can see the location anyway and it doesn’t say anything about your sit to make it competitive or unique. I would probably choose the one with the three doggies, they look adorable and I would want to keep looking.

I would really love that sit but, unfortunately, at this time of the year I don’t sit in the UK.

I am sure you will get better advice than mine.

Good luck.

@Malnik I enjoyed looking at your listing, it sounds a great sit. One that we would be interested in on another occasion. (We are already booked on another sit over October half term). I love that you back on to Thetford Forest. Your trio of pups look adorable (great descriptions of their personalities make me want to meet them!). Your Yorkie Suki is so tiny! The chihuahuas look like giants next to her!

Thank you for linking your listing. I’m afraid I have a few concerns, and they may also put other potential sitters off. While your kitchen and bathroom look nice, the bedroom you show is rather untidy with a stain on the carpet and cage on the floor. Is this where the sitter is to sleep & the dogs?
You make no mention of how long the dogs are to be walked for, if they can be walked together etc & as has been pointed out, how long for. Your description of Oscar is also offputting however, you are being honest & it won’t put everyone off.
Good luck

It actually looks really good. Usually when owners say on here that they aren’t getting applications we can all spot loads of areas of improvement for their profile. But there’s only a few things with yours, so take the advice that the others have given to improve those things.

If the address was wrong, that’s the main reason you wouldn’t have got applicants, because sitters would have been confused by the location on the map that is automatically generated, and then what you had said in your text part.

Good luck

It looks like you’ve made some updates already, which is great. The one that would give me pause is the bedroom. It’s cluttered and would make me wonder where I would put my stuff.
Other than that, I liked everything else on your profile.

Good work on updating the profile and making all the changes that members have suggested @Malnik - looks like a lovely sit with clear instructions and info! :raised_hands:t3: Can you add the family friendly tag as it’s half term week & you may get a family who’d like an inexpensive week away plus your pups are used to kids & teenagers so win win. That could help bring you some more applicants. #tinydoglove

Yes I took note of the above, I’ll re take a bedroom one tomorrow!!

Can you say if that is the bedroom where the sitter(s) will sleep and the dogs too?
You sound like a lovely host & as another member often says, “I’ll eat my hat if you don’t get a sitter”

You can invite people too, you might want to try searching for sitters and directly invite them to consider your listing

This is not a good idea and rarely works, as has been discussed a lot on the forum

Just looked at your ad. In the negative, the bedroom looks cluttered and untidy, do a better photo of that room. Other than that looks great and nice location. It is a short sit so you may get applicants nearer the time.

Adding an exterior photo of the home might help. I don’t see a table, is there somewhere to sit and eat? And I suggest you clarify whether sitters will be required to sleep in the room with the dogs in a crate, or if another room is available to them. The current bedroom pic looks cluttered, rather than inviting. Sitters have to be able to picture themselves living in your space.

It might be worth dropping a line to anyone who has favourited the listing. It’s a bit of a long shot but it did work for us once (as sitters), so worth a try?

I see,.I don’t really appreciate it when I’m invited it feels quite pressurising, I assumed it was common practice!

@SaraJ It IS common practise to send out invitations. But it is not an effective way of finding sitters. We’re received countless invitations over the years but I can only think of 3 occasions when we were actually available and interested in the sit in question.
Dates/location/sit requirements etc all have to match so to randomly inviting a sitter hoping your listing will tick all the sitters requirements in that moment is a long shot!
There’s no need to feel pressured by invitations! Quite often the HO sends out a lot at once- like casting a net and hoping to catch a fish! -they may/may not get lucky! Sometimes they don’t even send a message of any kind. I personally respond quickly to every invitation whether there is a personal message or not. And then immediately ‘archive’ the message out of my inbox.
If there is no message attached and the sit does not attract at all I might just hit decline and write nothing.
If there is a generic attached message I’ll respond briefly.
If a personal message is attached, that clearly shows an HO has read our profile and actively chosen to reach out to us personally, then I will respond in kind with a friendly, more detailed, response.
Sometimes I have favourited a sit for future and once or twice that has brought results too.
However the vast majority of sits are arranged through sitters applying for listed sits that they are actively interested in, and the host finding their match that way.

Hey Melnik,
We are in the UK and have found sitters a couple of times (and have at least one more booked in for future dates).
Where I’ve struggled is when we’ve been late to look for sitters (in my book late = 3 months), which means most sitters are already booked up / have other plans.
My aim for next year is to be much (much) more organised, and advertise 6+ months in advance.
Another thing I find useful is contacting sitters directly through “find a sitter” - I’m not sure the date filter works brilliantly since some sitters have told me they’re not available even on the platform - but this at least allows you to offer dates to specific people who have relevant experience to your animals / needs.
Good luck!
