Sitters and hosts should be able to leave a review even if the membership expires

I realise this can’t be open ended indefinitely but a “window” should be allowed, say two months as this penalises both sitters and hosts if they can’t receive/give a review.

Out of interest, is it possible for sits to be confirmed for a period following the membership expiry of one or both parties?

@Happypets if you mean can a member confirm a sit AFTER the expiration and non-renewal of membership by either party, the answer is no. Once a membership becomes non financial, you no longer have access to anything on the site. No messages, no profile, nothing, you basically don’t exist until membership is renewed. So even if one party isn’t a financial member, you won’t be able to communicate, confirm, nothing. Only way is to do it privately off the THS site if someone really wanted to do that and only if you have exchanged alternative contact details. Is this what you were meaning?

@ziggy No, that’s not whst I meant. I was about to respond to the OP, who’s suggested an extension of 2 months post membership expiry for reviews. It made me wonder whether a pet parent whose membership expires in, say, October, could potentially post sit dates now for a date in December? If that is indeed possible then any sitter would have no way of knowing the other’s membership expiry was imminent and of course there could be no exchange of reviews.

For those of us who book sits some months in advance, theres an assumption that memberships will still be valid. It seems to me that sits with an end date which is beyond a host’s membership expiry date should possibly not be allowed to be posted.

Yes, of course that is possible.

Maybe that is only possible when autorenewal is switched on, but of course a member can change that a few days before the new fee is due.

@Happypets If auto renew is set up then YES a member can post dates for after their current membership is going to expire .

If they confirmed a sit / sitter and later tried to cancel auto renew - the system would not allow them to until they had cancelled any confirmed sits .

I don’t know if other party gets automatically notified of this cancellation .

Thanks for that, @Silversitters. With that in mind - and in response to the OP’s question - If a sit is confirmed in the system and carried out whilst both parties hold current memberships, then surely it’s only reasonable for both to be able to leave a review within the 14 day threshold, irrespective of whether one membership ends during that period.

I felt really bad that I couldn’t give excellent sitters a review because my membership had expired and by the time I renewed (wanted to make best use of the twelve months) the review window had closed.

I might start asking about membership expiration and avoid hosts whose membership ends before the 14-day review window. That’s because a review is part of the exchange to me and many other sitters. It does me no good if hosts are sorry about it and can’t write a review after a good sit.

Some folks suggest that such hosts write a reference for the sitter instead, after the fact, but I think that a feeble fix after a sitter has done a good sit. It’s better than nothing, though.

You can go in and leave them a non-member review. Then it’s still reflected on their profile.
