Exactly! The flexibility is key and it’s great when all parties understand it’s simply a matter of planning ahead.

Yes, one couple booked their holidays to fit my availability.

I spent many years living in Santa Barbara before buying a home in Ventura, 27 miles away. Those who know the area, know that since there’s only hwy 101 between the two towns (sandwiched between the ocean and hills), that 27 miles can take an hour or more. It makes visiting my Santa Barbara friends, time consuming and limited

.

Towards the end of Covid, I had an aha moment and found a petsit in SB, in my favorite neighborhood, with a wonderful senior dog who gets along well with my little dog.

I’ve now petsat for little Sadie 3 or 4 times and it’s always wonderful. I send an email out to all of my friends there letting them know the dates I’ll be a local again, and I usually get to see all of them.

We first sat for this adorable pair early in 2024.

We are currently on our 6th sit with them in a little over a year - just 2 days / 1 night while their owners go to a wedding. A short sit is easy when you know the pets, home and owners well!

We have also just been discussing a much longer local sit with dogs we have cared for twice already this year, while their owner visits family abroad.

We have another repeat sit lined up in May in Wales. We first sat for them in 2022 and this will be our 5th time.

We may do a couple more repeat sits during the summer.

One of our repeat sits are planning to relocate to a different part of the country (yet to be decided), so in future we will have either a repeat sit in a new location, or a visit to stay with friends.

It feels like home soon as we walk in the door,

The pets greet us and they are as happy to see us as we are to see them

We know the pets routine ( their local dog walks or where the cat likes to hide ) and we have been kept updated between sits with photos or messages ,

We already know where the grocery shops are , the fab local bakery, butchers and farm shop.

We have plans to visit the local places that we didn’t get time to visit last time , ( beaches, markets, restaurants, cafes, )

We can go back to visit the favourite places we enjoyed last stay (and enjoy them in a different season)

We know where everything is in the home and don’t have to go searching for things ( cheese grater, corkscrew :wine_glass:) !

We know how the heating / hob/ tv remote works

The neighbours know us and wave or chat when we pass them on a dog walk ( and we know the one to avoid )

We know how often the hosts (now friends) would like an update

We know the cleaner and that we can go out for the day and leave the dogs with them when they come - while they clean the home top to bottom.

We are totally relaxed knowing that we will have another great stay

We know we’ll be getting another :star::star::star::star::star:
